Annapolis Military Academy...

We left just about 0800 and were hoping for a better day of not getting lost.  Actually had a great drive to Annapolis and after parking and going through security we were there for the 1130 tour. The tour guide was awesome, she said an hour and 15 min walking tour and it was almost 2 hours!

The harbor in Downtown Historic Annapolis

The security checkpoint was just like going through an airport, even Diane's hip replacement set off the sensors (which doesn't happen at the airport).  But we got through and got signed up for the tour. Weather was very warm, and very(!) humid..uhhhh
The board that tells all about the Military Academy

The flagpole that shows how many times Annapolis has won in
football over West Point...they do like to brag here!
The dorms circa World War II...beautiful!

The other isde of the dorms...circa WWI

The swimming pool...50 meters

More of the dorms

The commandants house...34 rooms...what the heck
do you do with 34 rooms!!

Ok ...just had to get these Marines...going to a wedding..
There were lots of weddings going on..

John Paul Jones Crypt...the greatest sailor that ever lived
According to our tour guide

Just incredible buildings...this is in the process of being
reopened after an earthquake..

The scenery out the visitor center

Adam...he forgot his sunglasses in the car.
After the tour we had a little time to grab a quick lunch, visited the gift shop and attended a briefing explaining how to apply and get into Annapolis.  Very interesting and several young people and their parents at the briefing. People from Texas, Michigan and other places.

So after that we walked back to town, and thought we'd follow the map and see a few sites..well, guess what, we got lost!  We thought we were heading one way towards town, and actually heading away..wouldn't have been so bad except we were sweltering...yukkk...so humid we looked like drowned, sweaty rats (well at least I did)..by the time we got back to the car...

Historic Downtown Annapolis

Here you go Cheryl...beautiful

This is a hotel now..sure hope the a/c works well

Diane looking at some of the buildings

Russell, doesn't this remind you of Dobbins house in
Gettysburg where we ate...it too is a restaurant/pub..but no one
to drink with..we went on...

Loved this shows the Marines with the sign "We'd rather be at
Stan and Joe's"....

Stan and Joe's
It is a beautiful area, but wayyy toooo many people! Traffic is a nightmare and you can't even walk the downtown area on a Saturday afternoon as too mannyyyy people...I'm thinking wherever these girls are coming from they're there to catch on of the 4000 men on campus...and every single one of them are there on a Saturday afternoon!  uhhhh...

So we got back into the air conditioned car and headed for our room for the night..got there no problems well except for the fact that in the town area it's all one way main drag..which meant our hotel was on the south going way and that street is supposed to Washington but it's actually 2nd Street...well, eventually we found it...got there and relaxed for a bit.  About 1930 we decided to go find us some dinner..no problem right?! While we're out enjoying the drive the skies decided to let loose with some rain and lightening..well, these darned one way streets (turns out there's more than one)..screwed us up..thought we knew where we were.  So we found this Salvadorian/ Honduran Mexican place..yes good food..again not so good service..I hate it when they just dump the food and walk away...

So we ate dinner watched an incredible light show and the rain was dumping.  No problem, when it was over we knew how to get back to the hotel...NOT!  We got back out and ended up who knows where..I think we were halfway to Washington DC..got the map out on some side street eventually..decided how to go and finally about 2215 we got back to the room...after many cuss words and almost tears (only I was driving and couldn't cry as then I really wouldn't see the road)...uhhhhhh....I told Diane, no more driving after dark...and in the rain and with jerks (the nice word for how people drive around here)...When we got back to the hotel we told the desk guy a quick version and he said that drivers around here are jerks and they'll cut u off etc...yeah they are! I'd take Sacramento any day over this and I hate driving in Sacramento.

So, what did Adam think I'm sure you want to know....He actually liked the atmosphere of West Point better..thinking the curriculum and pay would be about the same.  He didn't care for the town and thought some of the students had an ego problem..honestly I thought the same..just the attitude and looks..like we're better than everyone..(YES I know Russell, some of them are future Marines!)....so we'll see what happens, but at this point he wants to pursue West Point.  Of course he realizes how difficult it is to get into..

This am I am letting them both sleep in a bit..we supposedly have only 20 something miles to go to drop him at American University, his base point for the week.  We'll drop him today and pick  him up on Friday.  Hoping he has the time of his life!

Talked to Ken last night and he made a last minute decision and headed to Bryan's house for the night.

Happy Father's Day to all the Daddies out there!  To my 3 son's for being such incredible Dad's!  To my hubby for being a great dad!  And to the best Daddy a 3 girls could ever have!  Love and miss you so much!!

Diane's dinner last night...Beef fajita's salvadorian style...

  1. This post is very helpful. I get know many things about military from here. We people also want to know about US military base and also overseas bases. And this post gives us many information about those.
