Sand Mountain, NV Trip and Jacob gets his orders!

Tuesday morning we rolled out of here a little after 1000 headed for Sand Mountain, NV.  It's about 70 miles from here, being 25 miles or so from Fallon, NV.  The toy hauler did awesome and we had the pick of the place for camping.  There was only 1 other group there.

We found our spot, got the Can Am unloaded and then proceeded to put the easy up up! It was needed as it was so hot already.  Once we had that done we sent Aaron out in the Can Am as we knew he was biting at the bit to get out there.

We sat up our chairs and sitting under the easy up proceeded to watch him for a few minutes.  We saw him going up a hill sideways. Uh oh.  The sand gave, his tires spinned and over he went in slow motion.  We headed over there on foot, and we saw him get out of the side ways Can AM.  He was just fine! ** If you saw FB last night alot of these pics will seem familiar**

Aaron ready to head out in the sand!

Oh oh!

I was a dummy and didn't take any tennis shoes only flip flops. The sand felt like a thousand degrees on my feet so I couldn't be of any help.  Long story short, they worked for 2 to 3 hours to get the Can Am righted.  They were working against gravity and about 1400 pounds to get it righted.  Finally with a hi jack Ken had brought and the 700 quad it was able to be pulled back up in it's correct position.
Ken was waiting for Aaron to come around with the 700 so they could hopefully get her righted!

That was it for the day as they tried to pull it with the 700 to get it out of the hole and back to camp but not gonna happen.  She spent the night out in the desert sand.  Ken tried to start her, but only a click.  Could see fluid leaking out, so best to leave it alone.
She's up!

They came back to camp and Aaron went for a little ride on the 700. Of course he felt bad but you know accidents happen and he was OK. All that matters.  It'll get fixed and be ready to go again.

Later in the evening Ken was going to bar b q some pork chops, but after looking he forgot the briquets! Oh well.  I made the sandwiches we didn't have for lunch and they were yummy too.  Eventually we 3 headed for bed in the especially warm night.  During the day it was about 100 degrees :(
Aaron relaxing..💙

Wednesday morning Ken left at 0500 to go home and get his quad with 4 wheel drive. It's more of a utility quad than sport for sure.  He was back just about 0830. I made us some breakfast and then Aaron got up and I got his.

After breakfast Ken and Aaron went out to see what they could figure out with the Can Am.  Later they came and got me.  Hooked up Ken's quad with a long line of strap.  I was on the quad pulling and they were behind the Can Am pushing.  Success! Once it started moving I just kept on going as far as I could.  Eventually it was loaded up in the 12 foot trailer and hooked up behind the Tundra.
Getting ready to go home and then to the shop on the 11th..

Ken decided to take it home then, that way he would only have to make 1 trip on Thursday (our day to go home).  Aaron and I stayed behind. It was miserably hot but later we decided to take a little quad ride.  Aaron on the 700 and me on Ken's quad.  I knew he was trying to lead me around the mountain, but once we got so far I wasn't comfortable with the loose sand so we turned around. By the time we got back to camp we both were done.

I had a bucket filled with cold water so we just kept dipping dish towels and putting them on us. Ken returned about 1600. Once the shade was on the other side of the toy hauler we moved over there and enjoyed the evening. He brought back briquets so he barbecued the pork chops we didn't have the day before :)

About 2000 before the sun went all the way down, Ken and Aaron decided to tackle the mountain and see if they could make it to the top! Aaron did on the 700!! Quite the accomplishment for sure! :)
Aaron on his way to the top!
He did it!!

Thursday morning after enjoying our coffee and breakfasts we started loading up and getting ourselves out of there. Going to be another scorcher.  We were home by 1200.  We unloaded what needed to be done and then shower time! Lunch and a pretty  easy afternoon. No more Sand Mountain for this girl in the summer time! haha.  I am serious!

It was still a great trip even with the things that happened. We wouldn't trade memories with Aaron (or any of the grandkids) for anything 💙

Remember the easy up that Ken put up at the beach a few weeks back and gave us
such problems?!  We said good bye and good riddance to it before we left!!

Blogger wouldn't let me on last night so I posted a lot of these pictures to FB. Turns out i had to go to Blogger and then down to Legacy Blog..sounded like a lot of people had the same issue yesterday. Why can't they leave stuff alone that works and we understand! UHHH.

This morning we were up and out of here by 0530. Ken had an eye appointment for his glaucoma, which we are happy to say his pressures were 15 and 17! Good news there.  He has a cataract forming on his right eye, but not bad enough yet to do anything. He goes back on Feb 5th..I know right in the middle again of winter travel..but what do  you do?! Eyes are way too important. Hoping to get to Texas this winter and meet up with friends, so we'll see how that goes.

Ken had to get blood drawn for his yearly appointment on Monday so we left Reno and headed back to Yerington and the little hospital we have in town.  We were home a little before 1130. Aaron never knew we were gone LOL..He woke up about 1215, early for him.

We found out for sure yesterday that our Sailor grandson, Jacob is headed for Italy after he graduates Air Traffic Control School the middle of August.  3 years is the plan right now.  Congratulations Jacob! Two grandparents that are very proud of you! I know he'll be missed and he'll be missing everyone but he's going to see parts of the world that otherwise he might never get to see!  I'm thinking he'll get visitors too while he's over there!

Nearing Happy Hour time! Happy Friday!

Headed for Sand Mountain, NV today! Toy Hauler is finished!

Sunday afternoon Aaron and I headed out on the quads for a change of pace.  I rode Ken's 500 utility style and Aaron rode my 700 Kawasaki sport quad.  That boy can ride! It doesn't matter if it's the Can Am or the quad.
Yesterday's sunrise 💙

We headed out to the "race track" an area that looks just like that.  We were probably out there nearing an hour and then came back home.
Way off in the distance riding the race track...

Off he goes, leaving me in the dust LOL....

Ken has been working his tail off to get the toy hauler ready for today. He did it! He and I made an early morning run to Lowe's to pick up some more wood he needed to make it secure and he worked out in the heat all Monday again.
There you have it! Our new "Toy Hauler"

Loaded and almost ready to go!  700 in the back of the truck..

We took it out on the highway loaded just like it is and it worked perfectly.  It will be an eye turner for sure, but for a couple of hundred dollars and lots of work on Ken's part we're ready to head for Sand Mountain today!

It definitely would have been easier to buy a used toy hauler but the cabover would have sat out in the desert and rotted away.  This way it dies with its' boots on.  We've had lots of wonderful memories in the cabover over the years. Once the "money pit" was sold it's just sat there wasting away as it doesn't fit on the new truck.

Time to get going, we've got a fun afternoon and tomorrow planned! We should be back on Thursday.  It's gonna be HOT but it is Summer! I reminded Aaron yesterday that we could have been headed to a cute cottage and lots of water with kayaking.  He grinned and said he still wanted Sand Mountain! So off we go! :)

Birthdays for 2 special kids..Toyhauler progress..Rides with Aaron!

Thursday afternoon we headed over to Karen's place to celebrate her granddaughters Sophia and Amelia's birthday.  I made some cheesy sausage balls to take for an appetizer.

We got there at perfect timing as the girls were opening gifts. Gotta love a 1 and 5 year old. They are the cutest kids!

She's running away! Cameron in the corner

Miss Amelia..her first birthday :)

Sophia, who at 5 thinks everything is wonderful, or beautiful 💜

Sophia and her mom Isabel...

Amber on the floor, Natalie, Jennifer, Heidi and
Amelia's dad Randy..

Sophia got a coat, had to put it on to open the rest of her presents!

We didn't stay too long as Ken still had things to do with the toy hauler and I promised Aaron another ride.

The weather was sure changing and looking threatening but we got nothing :(

Aaron with windblown hair!

He's so good he can drive with his leg!!

We headed back home and then just enjoyed the evening. I made chicken cordon bleu and some chicken broccoli rice. Aaron likes my mashed potatoes better haha.

We were treated to a beautiful sunset one more time.

Friday morning we set the alarm for 0400 as we needed to be in Reno to drop off the Mansion for some warranty work.  We left here about 0530, for some reason Aaron didn't want to go with us LOL.  We got there about 0745 and waited for them to open.  Once that was done we headed to Betsy's Big Kitchen in Carson City for a wonderful breakfast.
Finally got our Navy sticker on..It looks wavy but it's all stuck there!

We've had this one on for awhile.  Got more of both for our other vehicles!

The waitresses and cooks there are all wearing face shields instead of masks. I can certainly see why. They're light and they don't restrict your breathing, but they meet the requirements.  Felicia, had hers decorated with a tiara. I told her how cute it was and turns out she sells them for $15.00.  Well, heck I want to be a princess too! They're only $15.00 and she does all the work :) She said she would have it for me Saturday morning. Of course we didn't plan on being back so soon, but what the heck.

We left there and visited Lowe's then Raley's for prescriptions and then headed home. We didn't get there until after 1300 and Aaron was awake. The day before he didn't wake up until 1300.  Of course he stays up playing video games with his friends until the wee hours of the morning. 3 egg sandwiches for him for his brunch.

Ken worked on the toy hauler and got it looking pretty good. Later in the day Aaron and I went on another ride.  He is a really good driver and enjoys it..me too! 😍

Tacos for dinner and again a nice evening, that luckily cools down from the heat of the day!

A little video where we go up the hill to the mine, but going up the side we usually go down! I thought Aaron had done it before but he hadn't..

Saturday morning we left here at 0600 to be in Carson City at 0730. Again, Aaron didn't want to go with us, too early he said.  haha. Felicia had my new face shield all ready for me.  I gave her $20.00 and it was well worth it to be so cute. haha.
As cute as it is, I'm hoping not to wear it except for Ken's dr appointments or something like that. Certainly beats the masks though!
Looking through the clear face shield..My sister says I look like Cleopatra..I'll take it LOL.

We were home before 1000 and our sleeping beauty didn't get up until 1245! French toast (5 pieces of Texas Toast) and 6 pieces of bacon for his meal.

Ken worked on the toy hauler, got it stable and the Can Am fits just barely. It fits and that's all that counts. He's not done yet but it's getting close. Hoping to hit Sand Mountain on Tuesday and Wednesday if all goes as planned.
A work in progress!

It's gonna work!! Underneath the cabover he'll put siding to tighten things up..

The back end..tie downs and we're on the road on Tuesday!

Ken and Aaron headed out this afternoon and ended up on a 40 mile ride. Ken said they went places I wouldn't have liked so glad they got to do it together.

Ken's barbecuing burgers tonight. I forgot to take the hamburger out so it'll be store bought frozen burgers but that's ok they'll still be tasty.

Happy Hour! Have a great evening, we're headed outside for a bit!

Aaron's here..making plans..Ken's working on making a toy hauler :)

Well, the week is certainly flying by once again!  Tuesday morning I was out of here by 0615.  I was headed to CA to pick up our grandson, Aaron.  His football and basketball practices were cancelled so he wanted to come spend some time with us.  😍  He invited Mason but he couldn't come. I had a great drive down Highway 50, my preferred way of getting to CA.

I texted him about 1/2 hour before I was going to be there.  He was still sleeping when I got there, but he got ready quickly and out the door we went.
Aaron's here 💙

Since they are closer to Highway 80 I decided to head home that way. I stopped in Auburn and got him a couple of breakfast sandwiches from Mc Donalds and we carried on.  When we got to the Truckee area I got off the freeway on Highway 267 to check out Martis Creek Lake Campground.  We've been by it many times but never stopped.  The lake is nice, catch and release only and a good lake for kayaking.  They have the campground closed :( so we didn't get to look at it. Oh well.

A few pics from earlier in the week.. :)
Sunset Sunday night

Bar b que chicken

Monday was a baking day

Back on the freeway, we hit a few slowdowns as they are working on the road. At one point it merged into one lane and what a mess that was, put us behind about 30 minutes.  Too many trucks and people on that freeway, don't think i'll go that way again!

We made it home near 1500 or so. Hot, hot, hot!  99 degrees and Ken was outside working on the "toy hauler".  A lot more work than he intended, but gotta give it to him he's doing his best to make it work.  Donna, don't think we'll be meeting you in Utah as KOA would never let us in! LOL...no kidding. Don't think Quartzsite will be a problem though! HAHA...

We had a nice evening. Aaron had ham, mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner and ice cream later in the evening. I told Ken that Aaron definitely has Phillips blood in his system.  Mashed potatoes and Ice Cream proves it right there. haha.

Wednesday morning I ran to Raley's for a few things and to pick up a couple that I left behind the other day.  Got some things done and Aaron appeared about 1100. Got him his breakfast sandwiches and OJ and his day began.

Ken had been working on the toy hauler, got the cabover situated on the trailer and discovered he needed plywood and 2x6's to build a platform for the cabover. It's too short in the front for the side by side to be able to go under the upper area. A trip to Lowe's was needed.

Not the best video, but gives you some idea :)

Ken said we had about an hour until we would leave, so Aaron and I went out for a ride. He's a good driver, I know he enjoys the rides more with his dad, this grandma is not as adventurous LOL.  Russell's going to have to come out more often so they can play together!

Ken and I headed out, Aaron opted to stay home and play video games. No problem.

We got what we needed and headed right back. Coming into Silver Springs we hit a pretty good dust storm. Winds were up and lots of black clouds.

Aaron was in his room playing video games and had a little snack.  Not too exciting around here, but he seems happy!
This was his evening snack, but also his afternoon snack 💙 A little blurry but you get the idea!

Once the toy hauler gets done, we're planning a little trip with him to Sand Mountain and some different riding. I offered up a trip to June Lake renting a cottage and some kayaking, but he chose Sand Mountain, not surprising. 😉

Lori texted last night and said, no football until Dec 7th ( poor kids) and no basketball next week..so we'll see what else we can come up with to do.

So, this being Thursday once Aaron gets up we'll go for another ride. Ken plans on working on the toy hauler, it'll be interesting to say the least. I need to do a little cleaning up in the Mansion, as it goes for warranty work in the am.  Later there's a birthday party next door for Sophia (5) and Amelia (1).  We'll head over for a bit to see the girls.
Way too low in the front for the Can AM to fit under

He's built a frame that the cabover will sit on..it will be tall
but under height specs..

You won't be able to miss this once he's finished! 😊

Adam texted pictures yesterday, he spent his days off visiting Shasta and Lassen National Park.

Lassen National Park..

My favorite picture!

Seth and Holly had pictures done when he was home for the 4th of July weekend. I'm posting a few the next couple of blogs 💖

Gotta have one in his Dress Blues

Here's a little something interesting that went round this last week or so..
Google and put any 3 numbers in your phone, along with "new cases"...
Example :   762 new cases.. see what pops up, worked with every number I inputted..I've done it with 4 numbers and it pops up too..hmmmm..

Time to head for the birthday party! Have a great afternoon!
