Jackpot, NV

Yesterday the kids and I ran to Walmart in Gardnerville to pick up groceries for the trip..so a few hundred dollars later we headed back home.  Loaded the trailer and got some things done.

This am we left about 0630 to see how far we could make it.  We knew for sure we'd head for Wells, Nv but it was so hot we decided to hit Jackpot, NV.  I made lunch and the boys all decided that it was probably our last time heading this way for July 4th..so instead of trying to crowd us all into the trailer tonight, as we were going to stay at an RV park in Jackpot we'd get the bigger boys (Adam and Seth) a room at this cute little hotel across the street from the rv park.  Ken and I had stayed a few times at the hotel, so knew what we were getting.  The boys were very excited about it.   So we made Jackpot, found our space at the RV park and headed across the street to the hotel.  Nice room.

Brought them back to the trailer for dinner and enjoyed an incredible, lightening and rain show!  It looked like a flash flood outside!!  After dinner when it calmed down I took them back to their room and here we are.  Still raining outside, but awesome.

Tomorrow we should only have about 100 miles to go to City of Rocks in Idaho.  Looking forward to that!

We'll pick up the boys between 0800 and 0830 and bring them over for breakfast..then off we go!  Not sure what kind of service we'll have...but if nothing else see u all on the 4th from Arco, Idaho!!

National Police Memorial, DC and back home..

We got up fairly early and headed out after an awesome breakfast!  Headed toward DC with nod estiantion in mind really except to take a look at things..We had a really nice drive around downtown DC and then headed out!

We followed the freeway and got to Dulles at a decent time, after we had a late lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse..yummy!..

Got in around 2300 and Ken found us to pick us up..we dropped Diane off and headed to Georgetown..got in about 0100 and Cheryl was waiting for us..well..she was waiting for Adam..this am we got up and headed for Eric' house..picked up Seth and Mason and then not too long after we got back for Seth and Mason, in walked Cheryl..so after a few minutes..we were on our way..

Plane was delayed a bit due to weather, then as we sat there, it moved earlier and earlier..so not too long after w realized the plane was not going to leave that quickly...so just enjoyed watching people!

Georgetown DC and picking up Adam!

Today we got up and went to breakfast here at the motel...it was awesome!  Eggs, bacon, waffles, sweets, cereal and toast..yummm..After that thought we'd try and find our way to Georgetown.  Which eventually we did.  Spent some time walking the street and enjoying the view.  It was nice, very touristy and I'm sure very expensive to live.

Well, it was time to go..we were parked in a parking garage and couldn't find it..finally asked someone who actually knew where we probably were...and we found it.  So then we headed out to pick up Adam..of course we thought we knew where we were going...but not..eventually we found him..haha..hate this town for driving..get so turned around.  Diane does a great job with the map and the streets though..

So a quick trip to Starbucks for them and off we went looking for the motel.  Traffic was something else but we found our way home.  Spent the rest of the afternoon doing nothing...then we headed for the town of Falls Church and the Dogwood Tavern..we ate there last year and Adam wanted to go this year. Had an awesome dinner...just not quite the same as last year, as no one drank beer...missed the rest of the party.

Back in our room now.  Tomorrow am we are planning on heading for DC one more time to see the National Police Memorial. Then head for the airport in the afternoon and home.

Adam really enjoyed the conference he's on the phone now with his mom and really has some stories to tell.  He said he has "Happy PTSD"  love that term.

Buggy ride and onto Washington DC...

We got up this am and got going...supposed to be a continental breakfast at the hotel..went down at 0730 and some guy answered, it was dark in office...I said I thought there was supposed to be a continental breakfast..he says oh yeah..give me a minute..really?!...uhhh no thanks...never again..Mom apparently runs the hotel and daughter and whoever this guy was are running it for her for some reason..

So we headed for Intercourse, PA and had a nice breakfast at a restaurant, Dienners..very good.  Then we headed for Aaron and Jessica's Buggy rides...Never saw Aaron or Jessica, but we had a nice ride with Esther.   I don't really have too much to say, except I was really disappointed with the comercialism of the Amish Country.  A gentleman who was on the tour said that alot of true amish are leaving this area and heading to Ohio..where Amish is still Amish.  There are so many Mennonite in the Lancaster area they are forcing the Amish out.

Amish Buggy Ride

Field corn for the cows...

Esther, our tour guide..

We stopped at an Amish Farm and saw the cows, horses, pigs etc. We saw the dairy production which I was not impressed...pretty sorry, flies etc.  I can see I won't be going back to the Amish area.  The farms are still incredible and the country beautiful..but the touristy area is just not for me...don't think it's really for the truly Amish either...

Diane on the buggy ride...

We left after that and decided to head for DC.  We spent a few hours looking for the National Cathedral.  Been to DC several times, but just never had time to see it.

It is really something to see.  Hard to find if you don't know where you're going..like us..but find it we did..there was a 5.8 earthquake in 2011 and the Cathedral is just getting started on repairs so we were able to see the first floor but really nothing else.  Still worth it though..beautiful!
Outside the Cathedral

there are needlepoint pillows with different people in America
and there accomplishments..

Diane in the cathedral

On top is where the first stage of earthquake work is taking place..

Then we fought the traffic through DC and with my driving and Diane's map reading we got here to the Governors Inn in Falls Church, VA..tomorrow we pick up Adam.

Don sent this pic of Adam he found on the website!  Thanks Don!!
