Beautiful moon, hot days..Happy Birthday Mason!

I love this picture that Ken took of the moon and
Ocotillo...

We're still here at Imperial Dam..and it's hot! The internet not too good in the afternoon so thought I'd load pictures in the morning and do the writing in the afternoon, well that didn't work.  Too involved in people watching and sitting in the shade (and enjoying happy hour with the hubby) to get it done.  So here I am trying to catch up..haha

Tuesday afternoon, it was hot so we took a little drive just around the area to spend a little time in air conditioning.  Down the road there is a day use area, but it's not part of the $40.00 we paid for camping.  Day use is $10.00. Ok if you want to spend the day but we didn't.

There is another "campground" at the end of the road.  It's a big parking lot where you can spend the night or more for $15.00 a night. Why would you do that is beyond me, but you can see they seem to have no problem filling the lot.

The lake is really low this year and seems to be just be shrinking more and more. Sad, because it's so beautiful.

When we finished looking at the lake there, we took one of the many dirt roads and ended up on top of a mesa.  We sat on the tailgate and drank a beer. Yes, I did too..an icy cold Corona Light. It was so good!

Our view from the top.

Very nicely groomed dirt roads.

Doug, did you name our road?!
Sun going down..

Yep this is what I love!
We were up taking many pictures of the eclipse but only a few here. Looking at blogs this am it's interesting how the pictures all turned out differently.  Still it was something to watch happen! Amazing...

We got ourselves up and going and headed for Yuma for a quick trip to stop at Frys and get a couple of things and ICE.  It's not lasting long in the cooler with this heat.  It was 86 one day and 82 the other..such intense sun! Stopped at Amerigas for a propane fill, much quicker at 1000 than at closing time.  $17.00 and we're heading back home.  Ken did ask if I wanted a date shake, but I said no. Had one last year and no desire this year. Too sweet for me.

When we were pulling into camp we got a text from Patsy asking if we saw them wave as they went by the entrance to Imperial Dam on their way to Yuma.  Well, we were certainly close to seeing them as we had just pulled in to camp. They got an early start! Back home by 1100.  Cleaned a little and because the wind had stopped Ken was able to put out the awning.

After lunch he asked if I wanted to go for a drive, as the trailer was heating up and outside there wasn't any shade yet.  You betcha let's go. We took the CA ride into Yuma through the little run down town of Winterhaven.

Date farms

Cabbage Patch..where are the kids?

Harvesting..
This area reminds us so much of our Mason Valley.  Yerington's claim to fame is the "Onion capital of the West".  Workers work all summer and I'm thinking then they head this way for a while.  Hard work for those people.

Here you go Elva!

Lovely purple hue, and love that Airstream..

Happy Hour for just the two of us...

Beautiful moon last night..

Love the golden hue..

Dinner was a little late as we were enjoying being outside..
George, Ken finally got your salad and he really enjoyed it!

Ken bar b qued thighs for him, boneless breast for me. Yum..I
found asparagus for $1.99 a lb (not as good as George's
$1.77)but sure satisfied a craving!

It's been a great couple of days here at Imperial Dam.  So many RVs but ohh so quiet!  Today we're heading to the Arizona Marketplace, mainly because we've never been.  Tomorrow we're heading back to Q for a couple of days, thinking he wants to climb Q mountain because we haven't so we'll give that a shot. Once we've spent a few days we'll start the way home, so we can head out once again. Love it!

Yesterday our Grandson Mason turned 13! Happy Birthday! I called him about 0600 and he was up because he wanted to watch the eclipse.  His dad was going to bar b q up a steak for him for dinner so he was happy.

Mason and his dad, Eric..

Have a wonderful day!

  1. That is a wonderful area to export in and around Imperial Dam. Enjoy the Arizona Marketplace and then your journey back to Q and climb the mountain.
Your dinner looks so tasty, glad you found some asparagus at a good price.
We had a date shake once a few years ago, and once was enough for us too.

    1. We like it here, but i'm partial to Q..the scenery is so pretty. Love asparagus so tasty and simple! Funny I think most people feel the same about the date shake.

  2. Lovely spot along the lake for sure. Was hoping to see you again, maybe you can text and stop in on your way back from the marketplace today? otherwise, it will be next year. :(
Dinner looks great! We also had a date shake from the china date farm in November. It was a treat and one a year would be enough. :)

  3. Wonderful pictures. Love the green colours.
Never had a date shake, no desire, not a fan of dates. I did like the date farm though, such straight and tall trees. Stately looking, I guess would be the apt description.
    Safe travels.

  4. Love Ken's picture of the moon and the Ocotillo.
Tom mentioned yesterday we need to stop on our way back to Yuma so he can get his date shake he really likes them. I agree good but a little to sweet so I will take a couple of sips of his and be satisfied until next year.
We are still parked in the same place until Saturday, if you wanted to take a ride this way we would love to see you both. Safe Travels.

  5. Maybe they did name it after Dolly.

Yuma lived in Winterhaven before he was taken to the rescue center. They couldn't afford to keep him. Their loss my gain.

Great moon shots. Though the one I like best is the Date Farms. It just stands out.

This winter has definitely been much warmer than last winter. Down right hot everywhere.

    1. Yuma is a great traveling partner for you and he's a lucky boy! Thank you . Can't complain too much about the heat, because I know Yerington is still in the low 20s in the am and we'll be there soon enough.
