Rachel, NV to Valley of Fire and Boulder Beach at Lake Mead

We woke up this am at 0630!  Hard to believe as we (especially me) never sleep that late. I was awake a few times in the night but fell right back to sleep. We did our coffees and visiting with our blogging friends.  Ken started with his shower and I commented on the blogs.  I washed a few dishes and the water quit running..then the electricity went out.  So we reverted to using the pump.  People came and went from the little restaurant quickly so we figure it was out all over.  No biggie.  Had my shower and made eggs for breakfast.  Did some cleaning and then it was time to go.  1030 we finally left the campground.
Out our back window last night.

We followed highway 375 until we met 93 S and made a right.  Usually we make a left to go to Caliente and Cathedral Gorge State Park. A beautiful drive down this highway, not a lot of traffic but more than yesterday haha..

Love our long open roads..

Out in the middle of nowhere and I mean nowhere!

Lake Pahranagat..National Wildlife Area..there is
camping available.

We came up to Interstate 15 and decided we didn't want to go anywhere near Las Vegas so instead of going South we went North about 11 miles to the turn off for Valley of Fire State Park. We've been there at least 3 times in the last several years but am in awe of it every time we go through it! Because Ken has the senior pass for NV it was free entrance.  We have stayed there camping but just drove through this time.  We stopped at the 7 sisters picnic area and had some snacks to hold us over until dinner.  Then out we went. I really think if you've never been to Valley Of Fire it's definitely someplace to put on you list.  Pictures just don't do it justice!  They have some hikes that are incredible and not too difficult.

The seven sisters area...

Seven Sisters...

Massive aren't they?

The Lake Mead National Recreation Area starts right there so another beautiful drive.  Lake Mead is huge! Seems really low, as it was last year too.  We got here to the Boulder Beach Campground right around 1600.  The temps were about 65 so it felt nice and warm. We found a really nice site and paid our $20.00 for two nights.  Because of the America the Beautiful Senior Pass (thank you Ken) it's only $10.00 a night instead of $20.00.  They have really big sites, nice bathrooms and running water available but no hook ups..just fyi.

Looks like we're going to drive right into the lake..

The view from our campsite

Our site...

Caught him trying to get away!

Doing some work right next door to our site..adding more sites..

Tomorrow we'll probably run into Boulder City and see what's going on just because we can. Looking forward to a nice evening tonight and a great day tomorrow.

Have a great evening.
