Happy Birthday Wendy and Christina! Dry camping at La Paz County Park..

Well, here it is Saturday morning and I'm going to try and catch up as it's at the 2 day marker where I forget what we've done..haha..

We left Lake Mead around 1030 and headed for Parker.  Had a beautiful drive up and over the mountains to Kingman, AZ.  That little town was packed with people.  We were going to pull into the truck stop, but decided against it as there were way too many trucks and vehicles everywhere.  So we motored on, until the rest stop.  Not much of one as the restrooms were closed and same on the other side of the freeway.  Now that's a real bummer for people driving across the state without their own bathrooms with them.  Too bad.
Near Hoover Dam

An old Whiting Brothers along I 40..remember those when
we were kids..

Pulled off the highway at exit 9 I believe.  That intersection is always packed.  We usually like the Chevron there but gas was 30 cents a gallon more, guess that's why no one was there.  We went across the street to the Love's Travel Stop and filled up.  Too crowded there to park with the trailer so we went back across the road to park and have some lunch.

We headed on down the road to Lake Havasu and just north of the airport we pulled into a road that we followed back for about a mile.  Ken had been talking with a nice gentleman at Lake Mead and he told him about this boon docking spot.  It's actually Craggy Wash Campground, free for 14 days.  It was just too crowded and very dry looking.  We moved on.
The boon docking place we checked out..too crowded..

Bill Williams Wildlife Refuge

There's an American Flag flying on top of that mountain..

La Paz County Park in Parker,AZ.  We like this park, but know it's really crowded and we probably wouldn't get a good site.  We're ok with where we are, dry camping was all they had left.  We drove to the area and found us a nice spot.  We have access to the restrooms, showers and anything else they have to offer.  Our spot is certainly much larger than some of the hookup areas.
Our sunset at Parker, AZ

Lazy Daze Rally here...

Our site..

After we were settled, we headed over to the resort next door and their outside bar. On Thursdays they have happy hour and karaoke from 1500 to 1800.  Got ourselves a drink and settled in.  It was pretty close to 1800 when we got there so the karaoke didn't last too long. The sunset was awesome from where we were sitting.
Nice place next door..

Back to camp and Ken bar b qued some awesome burgers for dinner.
Burgers and oven baked fries..

Friday morning it was late when we got up.  Got to get used to this Arizona time. Checked in with our friends,. and got ourselves ready for the day.  We'd already decided on a light breakfast and lunch at 1300 over at the Roadrunner Bar and Grill at the edge of this campground.

Actually got ourselves a little exercise and walked the campground.  We headed towards the river and just kept going.  After we got back we loaded up the truck with our chairs and ice chest and headed over to day use. After about 20 mins or so it was 1300 so LUNCH!
Ken had their cheeseburger and fries and I had the veggie burger and fries.  It was awesome, way too many fries to finish but they were so good!
Thinking about a bike ride..we walked instead..

Time to get my tan on...

The Colorado is so beautiful here!

At the resort next door..some of the cabanas are so cute
but this was my favorite!

Looking across to California..
Looking out the Roadrunner

Inside waiting for our food...

Love how they brand the buns..

Ken bumping fists with Wylie Coyote..

Elva, this one's for you...where are you?!

Fun on the river

Another gorgeous sunset!

Out to our chairs for a couple of hours just enjoying the sun and the river. Not too many boats out yet, but like watching.  Back to camp and over to the Pirates Den again for a drink during happy hour.  Just because we can...

Dinner was simple because of huge lunch.  Ken bar b qued a few hot dogs and that was that.  He pulled out our propane fire place and we sat outside till who knows when (actually it was pretty early) but we were tired from our terribly busy day!
Our Little Red Campfire..doing its magic!

Waking up on Saturday morning decided to get this going or I'd probably not have time.  We're going to head up to Lake Havasu today, I know it's Saturday and the balloon festival is going on but what the heck?! Of course the wind is going to interfere with that going on I'm afraid.  We had thought we'd be leaving and heading for Quartzite today but decided with the big tent going on we'd wait another couple of days before heading that way.

Yesterday two very special people celebrated a birthday!  My younger (by 13 months) sister Wendy turned 61...gosh that's hard to believe!  Happy Birthday Wendy!
Happy Birthday Wendy..the little blonde on the left...

Our Daughter in Law Christina, celebrated her 41st Birthday!  Not sure what she did after work, I called but only got a message.  Hopefully Eric and the grandsons did something fun for her.

Have a wonderful day!

  2. You sometimes luck out and getting that boondocking spot in La Paz looks like you did. You have lots of room along the river in a great site.
The food pictures look great and I can tell you are warm now. Happy birthday to Wendy and Christina, hope they had a good day too!

  3. Beautiful sunset picture. It is a bummer with all the closed rest areas across the country.

I can't believe it is so crowded up there, but I guess it is a popular vacation area for Californians.

Glad you're enjoying your journey and taking your time. More fun that way.
