Friday at Mammoth Cave National Park..Lunch Out..Last letter to Jacob :()

I had an off and on night but thinking we sat the alarm for 0500 this morning I was ok when I woke up at 0450.  Next time was 0616..uhoh..No problem though this was our tourist day! We took our time, Ken got much needed propane for 2 empty bottles.  We left here around 1000.

Wrote Jacob his last letter..bittersweet, as I looked forward to writing him everyday or almost everyday.  All this means is that he's too close to graduation for him to receive the letters :) YAY Jacob!! Very proud of our grandson!

Headed up Interstate 65 to Mammoth Cave National Park.  We got there in time for the 1200 Mammoth Passage Tour.  Only about an hour or so, but very interesting. With our America the Beautiful passes it was only $4.00 a person. Regular $8.00. They had more tours, but for the timing this one worked for us. We were there many years ago when our nephew, Steven graduated boot camp.  We took an extra few days and toured some parts of Kentucky.  They were so crowded we didn't get to take a tour but glad we came back now. The Rangers were excellent. We had the veteran Ranger Rick and another Ranger who was brand new followed in the back of the group.
A couple  of the rangers..

Very nice Visitor Center

It was a great tour..

Some of the ceiling inside the cave..

We had a small group so it was nice!

Things that have been found in the cave over the years.

They don't allow flash, so these pics are with my phone..

1994 earthquake caused this area to drop..only damage done..

Lots of steps up and down..again, what goes down
must come up or vice versa.. ;) Total of 150..

Afterwards, we took a drive to the ferry road (ferry is closed). Ranger Rick mentioned a trail to take, but it was not a nice day between the wind and the cold temperature.  Got a picture of the river though :)

We decided to look for a Mexican Restaurant for Linner as we knew it would be nearing 1500 before we'd eat.  Ken thought he knew the way out, but he got lost :) YAY.. WE had a beautiful drive, that we wouldn't have had if he didn't and we just went back on I 65.  No complaints here! Of course if you've read this far, you will suffer the pictures I couldn't resist!! LOL..

We didn't know it but 31W has some very historic houses and it was a beautiful drive.

The Broadway House Circa..1855..almost 6000 sq feet.
Sold in 2016 for $399.000 over 4 acres..wow..

Way too grand for me!

Darn trees!!!

Yes we had wind...and cold!

Wish I had info on this beauty!

We arrived at the restaurant and just missed their lunch specials..oh well.  I'll have to look up the name.  Marianna was out waitress and she's awesome. The food was incredible and so plentiful! We've definitely got enough for the two of us for Saturday's dinner.

Yum!

This was their one person Veggie Fajita plate..oh so delicious!

We left there an headed home for a nice night inside, as it was too cold and windy outside :(   Still enjoyable, but it would have been nice to have the little red campfire outside.  Oh well..Still a good night !

  5. You folks are much braver than I am. WE've stayed near by but have never taken the tour. Looks like you're having a great time. Cold and miserable is not ever fun when traveling. South, south, south, warmer, warmer, warmer. Haha.
