Surgery date and a trip to Lowe's

Ken's appointment with the surgeon was at 1240 on Thursday.  We left home in time to go by Raley's for prescription pick up and then a quick trip to Walmart.  We got to the surgeon's office a little early and he was seen about 1245.  Didn't take too long before they called me back with my little calendar to see when we could schedule his surgery.

Well, might as well throw the calendar out.  Last surgery was quick and I was taking him home a couple of hours later.  Turns out this surgery will require a hospital stay of maybe a couple of days.  What?!  This hernia is in the abdominal wall so a whole different story.  We scheduled the surgery for December 5th at 1400.  Poor guy no food after dinner the night before.  Recuperation time will be longer.

Because of the length of the surgery we decided that I would stay the night at the Carson Valley Inn.  We actually went there for lunch after the appointment and reserved a room.  They have some kind of contract with Carson Valley Medical Center so you get a reduced rate which is nice.  It's 50+ miles from our house and with it being daylight savings time, we figured it would be safer this way than driving the lonely road in the dark.   The next day i'll go ahead and go home before dark.  Or not.  We'll see how it goes.

After lunch we headed home and that was pretty much it for the day.  Neither one of us wanted dinner that night.

Yesterday morning we headed for Fernley and our local Lowe's.  This was it, the last of the stuff to be bought for the outhouse.  We picked up a new toilet, bender board and a few other things.  I bet you all are glad to see this project end...I know I am.
On the road to Fernley, we had some cool looking clouds
No rain..

We were home in time for a later salad lunch.  Ken went out to the truck to pull the stuff out and see what he could get done.  I wrote a few cards and a few checks for birthdays this month and headed to town to get them in the mail.  Quick stop at Scolari's and then back home.  Ken was chipping out some of the concrete to make the toilet level and scratching up my newly painted floor!  Oh well, lots of paint left.  No pictures as he locked it up before I could get one.  haha..

Our neighbor John came over to check it out and he's pouring a little concrete on Saturday so Ken's loaning him our mixer and will probably help out a bit.
Last night's sunset..was hoping for more color out the back
door but it wasn't to be..

We texted Joe and Stacey last night to see if they're interested in going to breakfast this morning and they are so we'll meet them at 0815 at Dini's to have a nice breakfast.

This afternoon we'll head back as the Republican candidate for governor is coming to our little town for about 45 minutes or so.  We really  like Adam Laxalt so figure we'll go support him.

Gonna get this day going! Have a great one!

  1. At least now you have a surgery date, maybe it is a good thing that Ken will be in bed for a couple of days. He's been go go go for a long time! I understand the driving in the dark thing for sure.
Our hospital in London also has a motel within walking distance and Donna stayed there when Gerry was in for his surgery. It was discounted and a great idea!
As outsiders, we are anxious to see the Outhouse when finished but I'm sure not as much as you. I know what it was like working on our Bunky summer of '16. Just "get 'er done!" was my thought then too. :) Enjoy breakfast this morning!

  2. Nice that the surgery date is set and that you can stay right there in town at a discounted rate.
