Getting ready to leave the picnic area. |
We're driving east obviously.. |
Love the rural roads and the homes along the road.. |
I think we left our overnight spot about 0830. We had decided to wait a bit before we had breakfast since we had a good travel day ahead of us. A beautiful drive once again along Highway 82. We drove for about an hour and I googled a Walmart, so we stopped in New Boston, TX. Ken greased up the new sway bar while I made breakfast in the trailer. Then it was into Walmart to do some shopping. The old "divide and conquer" works for us once again.
Walmart in Boston TX..very nice, huge parking lot! |
Texarkana |
:))) |
The water tower for Arkadelphia..so colorful.. |
We noticed all across TX Trucks, with brush guards and pulling an empty trailer..Macho cowboy?? LOL.. |
High and Proud! |
Ken also tried to get one of the tires fixed, but they discovered it's a cracked rim so it can't be repaired. We had the same problem with another tire when we bought the Jayco, so under warranty they replaced it. It seems Jayco had a problem with a bad batch of rims.
From there we found I 30 and hit the dreaded interstate. Well, we've had a good run on the backroads! I started looking at the map to see where we might want to stay. Googled COE Parks and found there's quite a few in the Little Rock area. Ok, called one, no one answered. We didn't want to go looking just to find out they are full like the other day. I called Mamuelle Park (501-868-9477) and got to talk to Judy who said they had space available for 1 night. Put the girl in the phone to work and she got us to the entrance station. Judy was still working and she gave us the choice of 3 beautiful spots right back from the Arkansas River. What a lovely lady! For $11.00 with Ken's Golden Age Pass we got this incredible site with water and electric. There's a dump station and bathrooms with showers if you wish. The place is booked for the next two weeks (you might find one day here and there with a spot available) It's Spring Break and there are families, but there's a lot of older people too. Pinnacle Mountain State Park is only 2 miles away. We won't get to see it this time, but it will be on our list for next time, as I definitely see spending time here.
The freeway could have been worse, tons of semis..:( |
We pulled into the first spot and there's nothing better. Our dinette window looks out on the beautiful Arkansas River :) The afternoon was gorgeous, I had things I should be doing, but instead just sat outside and enjoyed. We took a walk around one of the loops and just marveled at the huge rigs that are here!
On the way into the park, there is huge estates..this is one just being built.. |
Love the trees in bloom! |
Our view from the campsite.. |
Some of the rigs..the sites are huge.. |
The Arkansas River! |
This was a huge toy hauler, backed into a site.. |
Like parts of a feather, we stick together :) |
Quick look into the showers |
View from a back in site right on the river.. |
Looking across..this was a huge home on the hill.. |
I'd never get tired of this view :) |
Ken decided that since it was so nice, he got the bar b q out and he started a nice fire in the fire pit. So as always happens when he does that our Happy Hour lasted longer than usual, but that's the way it goes. Delicious burgers and great northern beans! YUM!
Our campfire.. |
Kind of blurry but some lights across the river |
Arkansas has a special place in my heart. This is where my daddy was born and raised. We spent so many summers here a children, where we always met up with our cousins :). We missed Clarksville, this time but found a real gem here, if you can tolerate the traffic to get here. We talked last night how close we are to Little Rock but you don't hear a thing here. :))
Wednesday morning after a wonderful night's sleep I looked at the clock and it was 0640! Oh my goodness better get up. I made and started the coffee got my little ducks in a row and at 0700 woke up Ken. Neither one of us wanted to get up but we did. Had a beautiful sunrise and captured a few pictures.
Sunrise at 0658..time is wrong again. |
The plan is the West Memphis KOA this afternoon and then we'll pull into Don's tomorrow afternoon! We hope to make it to Crossville, TN to visit with our friend Clif before we head home. After that, we'll make plans to head home, whichever way we end up.
Have a wonderful day y'all! Travel safe!
Arkansas and Great Northern Beans. Oh the memories. Remember bringing cases of them from Arkansas cause we didn't have them in California! Just thinking on way to work that if we don't move to Arkansas that I want to travel there like you guys ....
ReplyDeleteAww..glad you like the memories. I forgot about bringing great northern beans home, but now I do. Winco beans are the best! I hope you do go to Arkansas one more time..dont' think as a kid i appreciated the beauty..I do now! :)
DeleteWhat a lovely trip and excellent campsite, From the looks of it you will be heading home before we leave the area. Enjoy your time there.
ReplyDeleteGuess we'll see where you're going and we're going..would love to see you guys again, but if not we'll definitely make it happen next year! We always love spending time with Don and Dana in TN!
DeleteArkansas is beautiful. Dolly Jo was born in Ft Smith. She has many relatives in that area. Unfortunately, it's been years since we've visited.
ReplyDeleteMy daddy was born and raised in Ft Douglas back in the piney woods until the draft for world war II called him. I love Arkansas. We don't have many aunts and uncles left, 1 2nd cousin and then cousins in Missouri and Kansas..
ReplyDeleteLuck is with you to find such a beautiful spot. Always a nice feeling at the end of the day to look out at something so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, and safe travels.
