More work on the ugly bathroom..

The usual routine here in the morning...coffee, computer etc.. I ran to Scolari's for a few things and then back home.

Ken spent a good part of the day working on the ugly bathroom..he got some of the flooring laid and then got the new toilet installed.  I thought he was pushing it, (and also thinking that if he did that work would stop for awhile)...me of little faith!  Anyway, after he did it I have to say I'm glad he did, as we were able to see that part of the 3rd bedroom closet is going to have to go.  We bought the oval shaped bowl so it's definitely bigger than what was there before..so if we don't take part of the closet, you won't have much room to get around the toilet to either the shower (don't think the shower door would open all the way)..or to get to the sink.  So I have to admit it's a good thing he got that in, otherwise it wouldn't have worked.
The new toilet..hooked up and ready to go..see the wall in front..
that's the one that's going to be moved to make more room..

The floor we selected (Lowe's doesn't carry the hallway floor any longer)
but I'm happy with this as it's lighter color..will work for what I have
in mind..

We did talk last night and are thinking either end of next week or beginning of next we'll probably head south.  For a change, it's Ken whose got the hankering to head out..probably because he knows there's always projects to get done..Actually, once we get the ugly bathroom and the bunk house done we'll be pretty set here.

Woke up to a pleasant surprise here this am...a light dusting of SNOW!  A nice surprise!  You just never know what you're gonna get here..all day yesterday it rained and snowed in CA and Reno area..we got nothing..now overnight it snows!  Love it!!

Good morning Yerington!  Out my kitchen window..

Good stay at Bryan's house...Happy Birthday Cheryl!

Went to Dini's Casino in town for breakfast on Tuesday when we left here.  They have a breakfast special of eggs, hash browns, toast and your choice of bacon or sausage for $2.99..so that' s what we got and I gave Ken my sausage so he had both bacon and sausage for breakfast.  I ordered a side order of country gravy (sometimes I just can't help myself)..and it was delicious! Someone there knows how to make gravy!  Out the door for $7.48 for the two of us and we were stuffed!

Stopped at Lowe's in Fernley and bought a dremmel tool for cutting tile (figure not only did it work at Bryan's but hopefully we'll need it in a bit for the ugly bathroom)...

Got to Bryan's about 1130..I went down the hill to return a jacket to Bass Pro and before i knew it it was time to head back up.  They got the tile and the water problem fixed, so Cheryl was a happy camper!  She has her own shower back!

Enjoyed a nice night with their family and as always happens probably too much wine but it was fun.

Got up yesterday and made some french toast and bacon for Cheryl's birthday and then we headed out.  Got to South Reno about 1300 so we stopped at BJ's Brewery and Restaurant..We've seen it several times but Ken thought to try it yesterday...Killer burger he had!  I got on my smart phone to check out the menu, and they had buy 1 entree get 1 free!  So what  a deal..good food, good service and a big variety on the menu!
A little blowing snow on I80

Short area for chain control..but the new Patriot had no problem

Ken's double burger and a beer..

Came home through Virginia City as we figured the day was shot and nothing was getting done..sure was pretty!
Heading up Geiger Grade to Virginia City

Near the top of the grade ...

Virginia City..even though a lot of places closed, still a lot of cars..

Got home, made a fire, no dinner for us as we were stuffed and a early night!

Beautiful sunrise here in Yerington this am..

Work is continuing...headed to CA today..

Ken has continued working on the bathroom..I've got a few pics i'll post later, but really unless you're here you don't realize what goes into getting it ready so we can make it new.

He got the floor fixed, the old vanity out and new plywood in...still ugly, but really looks better than it did!

The ugly vanity, before it came out

This really ugly light...

Vanity gone!

Vanity gone and new plywood in place..

Cheryl had mentioned last week that she can't use the shower in her bathroom as more water is going out the spout than out the shower head.  We're going to head over there today and see if Ken can help her out.  Several years ago they tiled the bathroom so it appears the tile just needs to be cut back a bit so they can get to the washer behind..and replace it.

Cheryl's 49th birthday is tomorrow, so I baked her a German Chocolate cake yesterday..since we're there the day before her day..Figured it was close enough.  We'll spend the night and leave and return home tomorrow morning.

It's still up in the air as to when we'll leave and head to Parker, AZ but in the next few weeks..once it warms up there.

This morning here in beautiful Yerington, NV..a balmy 17 degrees..better than the 5 degrees a few weeks ago.

A little dusting of snow...doesn't last long, but it sure is pretty!

Working on the Really Ugly Disgusting Bathroom!

When we bought this house most of the problems with it were cosmetic..paint and new flooring were the first projects.  We (Ken)..added the fireplace (which I absolutely love!), the new porch coverings and many other little projects.  We knew the hallway bathroom was going to be the biggest and worst of all!  How people do these things and live that way, i'll never know!

Because it was going to be the worst project of all, we just put it off..Ken figured going under the house he didn't want to do it in the warm months because we have lots of spiders, black widows to be specific (no clue why)..and lord knows what else is under there.  Honestly, after looking at what's under there..I'd NEVER want to go under the house!  Yuk!

We went to Lowe's on Wednesday and spent a little money getting the plywood and 2x6's to take care of the dry rot under where the toilet set.

Ken pulled up the old flooring, which exposed what was probably there in 1985..ugly!  Luckily he didn't have to go under the house for this part of the project, he was able to fix it all from up top!  He worked really hard the last two days, of course most people wouldn't realize how hard and long it was, as it doesn't look like a lot has been done..always the way it is with remodel.

Looking in the door to the RUDB. Horrible marmite walls
light falling off ceiling..weird door on storage..horrible shower
stall..pic later on that one..

Loooking in and under..new 2x6's for the dry rot..

Notice the disgusting wall..Can you tell I hate this room!?

Missed the picture of the blocking underneath..but it looks so much better than
it did...can't wait to get cabinet out and new shower!

Today we head to Lowe's in Carson City..we planned on taking the flooring in the hallway and continuing it into the bathroom, but Lowe's in Fernley didn't have it anymore.  So we're heading there this morning.  Ken plans on setting the new toilet..of course I had to get him to say that's not it and we're done..His famous words is "it's temporary"..years ago that would mean, until we sell the house..He's gotten much better!  This project needs to continue on, well, until we head south for a bit.

We talked about staying home and finishing, but then again there will come a time when we won't be able to go. So we're going!  Just need to get back before the spiders and critters come alive again, as he will have to go underneath for the shower pan and moving the shower drain.

A quiet day in Yerington...

Tuesday morning got up and after morning exercises..yes it's time to get back to that..Ken's been pretty good about it, but not me...something I don't look forward too but know it's good for me..I don't mind "getting my walk on" at campgrounds, but just not the same on a treadmill, or exercise dvd.

After breakfast, I got started on cleaning after having 5 boys here!  So far other than a hair pic that's the only leftover we've found..several half empty water bottles and sodas..but to be expected.

Ken got started outside, on making a new crawl space under the house.  The one they had in the back of the house, you have to crawl over a stem wall to get to where the bathroom is..so this way it's right in front of and below the bathroom.

Wednesday am...we're headed for Lowe's this am for some supplies he needs for the project...so it's quiet here, but back to work!

Kept the boys another day...Waking up Monday in Boomtown

So I was planning on taking the boys home on Saturday..then came up with the idea to take them to Berlin Ichysaurus (gonna have to check that spelling) State Park. Adam, Ken and I went a couple of summers before and thought it would be a good day trip..well, when I checked the weather the temp was 2 degrees..well, that won't work for outside.  So we decided to take them to the Ordnance Museum in Hawthorne, NV.  Figured we'd have a quick lunch at Walker Lake and then more ping pong before calling it a night.

Out my kitchen window, Aaron with his weapon..kids were playing war..love it

Ordnance Museum, Hawthorne, NV

Boys will be boys..luckily the museum likes kids climbing on the tank!

Mason in the World War II Jeep

The section all the boys liked the best!
The boys talking with one of the volunteers at the museum

Back to the guns...

In talking with one of the volunteers there, he said that if it was warmer weather he would open the hatch to the tank and the kids could go in, but they'd freeze if he did it then..next thing we knew he had gone outside and opened it for them!  So sweet!  The kids loved it, think they'd have stayed inside for hours if we'd have let them.

Inside the tank

After leaving the museum we drove to Walker Lake and had a quick lunch..was way to cold to spend anytime there!  Got home, Ken made a fire in the garage and we spent some time out there with the kids playing ping pong.  Then we called it an early night as I knew we'd be getting up early to head for CA.

Ken suggested that night rather than me doing the one day turnaround, why not meet in Boomtown and spend the night?  Ok works for me...100 miles or so less traveling.

The boys and I left here and headed for Ca..Christina met us in Auburn and she took her two boys, we headed down, had a quick visit with Russell and then Adam and I headed to his house..then I headed for Boomtown.  Ken got there just a little bit before me and had us checked in.  We relaxed a bit and then headed to the casino area to check it out.  The Guitar bar had a single singer who was really good!  Did some blues and easy listening music, so we spent a little time there, had a few drinks and enjoyed the music.  Back to our room and dinner of El Pollo Loco which was yummy!

Got up at 0730 this am!  Haven't slept in like that for quite awhile!  We headed over to Meadowood Mall to check out the clearance sales...not much going on..we didn't spend any $$ there..then over to Tractor Supply in Minden.  Ken bought himself some coveralls, as he thinks they'll come in handy soon.  He's planning on starting the "Really Ugly" Bathroom project this week.  He'll be able to get some of it done before we head to AZ later this month.

Had a great time with all the boys...hoping they can come back during Easter Break..

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!  Hard to believe this is 2016! In 9 days Ken and I will be retired 6 years!  Amazing!

Tuesday morning I headed over and picked up the boys.  Jacob and Aaron were at Eric and Chris's house so I only had to go to Cool.  Picked everyone up and headed towards Placerville, a quick stop at Carl's Jr and then headed home.  Adam drove a bit of the way and then going over the mountain, i drove as it was pretty icy..(and I just felt better about me driving)..haha..

Stopped in Minden planning on getting a couple of Papa Murphy pizzas for dinner, but guess everybody else had the same idea.  So off we went.  Called in for a pizza at Round Table..which basically sucked! That place is so hit and miss..oh well, it was gone in a matter of two minutes.

Wednesday, we headed to Scolari's for some things for New Years Eve. Nothing too exciting here, as it's so cold (12 degrees) and it doesn't even warm up to freezing during the day!  A lot of ping pong playing going on!

Thursday, I made a bunch of dips, we dressed up some pizzas, cookies, brownies etc...and we made it to midnight!  Barely, I must say!

Today, it's Friday about 0830 and everyone is still sleeping!  Tomorrow I plan on running the boys home..and they won't be back till Easter probably.  :(
On my way over..Wilson Canyon

The first night Mason and Aaron were beat!

Breakfast at Grandma's Restaurant..

Aaron wanted French Toast..
