Not enough hours in the day...2nd day of painting!

Today was another day of painting!  I woke up at 0300 and couldn't go back to sleep...again, hate it when that happens!  Waited till 0430 to wake up Ken, and we had our coffee and our day began...Got outside and did our thing paiting, scraping and recaulking...I swear there just aren't enough hours in the day...but with all the work that needed to be done, we got the side near the basketball court and then after lunch we were able to almost paint all of the front of the garage!  I swear it looks so different, can't wait until it's all done..(meaning, garage, outbuildings and house)...

We will head for a quick, (well as quick as 100 miles can be) trip to the Lowes in Fernley to pick up a little (lot) more paint and caulking and probably a few groceries  at Wal Mart...hopefully we can continue on this momentum and finish this up...We really like the colors we chose..gotta tell ya though when we closed the little door on the side of the garage, the door is blue!  So we'll have to paint that too...then Ken closed the big garage door and it's blue too!  ahhhhhhh....guess we didn't notice when the garage was blue..so more painting but it'll be worth it in the end.

Contrasting picture of the done and undone..
Back of garage ready to go...Trim is done, the rest is waiting for paint.

Got started painting of the garage today!

We are going from the dark blue to "cream in my coffee"
which is why 2 coats required...

This is the side of the garage where I painted the trim and eves today...
how it looked this am..and I forgot to get pic this afternoon
Tomorrow it should look really different!
We both had a really good day today!...  I was awake at 0330..hate that..so at 0430 I brought Ken a cup of coffee and we slowly started our day..

Went out to the garage, got it all together to start painting...thinking it would go pretty quick.  I started on the underside of the eves on the side of the garage, while Ken scraped the backside of the garage.  We didn't really realize that with that dark blue paint the previous owners had there, that we would have to do 2 coats to cover...so yes we do..taking longer than we planned but oh well.  We decided to go ahead and give the trim (the dark blue) one coat so hopefully when we go back over it after the green for the main part is painted it won't be so bad to do...We stopped for lunch around 1300 and then worked until 1600 or so...hopefully tomorrow we can get the green started..nice to have someone to work with!  Especially your partner, makes it so much easier!!

A day of running around!

Got up this morning and got ourselves ready for a trip to the big city...Carson City!  We headed for Lowe's and bough 7 gallons of paint to start painting the garage...the house is ugly, but the garage really NEEDS the paint job first!

After that a trip to Walmart, and then we tried out the Golden Dragon for lunch..it was good and inexpensive.  Decided we needed to go by Verizon in town and added texting to Ken's phone..We also purchased a pretty cool unit, now we have a landline now at the house, but it is portable, so we can take it cross country, plug it in and we'll have service all the way across for $20.00 a month!  We didn't want a landline here, as we still want to travel..but this is like the best of both worlds!  It has a rechargeable battery that will hold a charge for like 4 hours..so we should be able to use the phone in the car...now this purchase presented another issue...so we headed to the Walmart in Gardnerville, as the one in Carson, sucks...too many people and not enough checkers!  Got a phone with 2 headsets and they do work in the house..I've sent an email with our number, but if you don't have it let me know via email and i'll make sure you get it!..

So we made a big circle but feel like we got a lot accomplished today!  Hopefully we'll start painting tomorrow!  If we do pictures will be on site tomorrow night!

Thanks all who follow my little blog!

Almost forgot...Eric and Chris bought themselves a new additon...a 2014 Subaru Forrester..looks very nice!

Labor Day Weekend...2013

When we moved here I told the kids and grandkids, that if they wanted to come spend the weekend on a 3 day weekend all they had to do is call and i'll go pick them up (meaning the grandkids) after school on Friday as long as we were going to be home here in Yerington.  Well, Labor Day weekend was coming up, Adam called so I went Friday and picked him up after school.  Got back here around 1830 as I made a stop in Gardnerville at the Verizon store..yukkk...I hate looking for new phones. But Verizon is the only cell that works here.

Bryan and Cheryl wanted to come over here on Sunday and stay till Monday.   They were here the first weekend after we bought the house, so now they would get to see the improvements.  Bryan told me he wanted mexican for dinner and biscuits and gravy for breakfast on Monday...happy to oblige!!

Saturday, I did a little cleaning and cooking and Ken poured the cement for our porch swing out front..love it, turned out perfect!

Bryan and Cheryl got here around 1330 and then we just relaxed and enjoyed visiting.  Ken decided to build a "temporary" basketball set up so Adam could play, he actually did enjoy playing!   Had some enchiladas and coleslaw, a lot of wine and beer and a really good time.

This am made a good breakfast, including biscuits and gravy and after awhile they left.  Labor Day Monday, traffic will probably suck,,but Bryan has his mind right!  Taking it easy here today...and loving our life!

Cheryl decided to take a little ride on the bike

The big pour and our tractors new home!!

Got up this am at 0430 and got ready for the big pour today!  We thought Ken was going to meet the concrete finishers at Mc Donalds at 0615 to bring them to the house, but they were there by 0600..he left, I watered the forms and they were back.  At 0700 or a little before the truck showed up and the work began!  The end result, a beautiful 8 yards of concrete!  20 x 30 feet of 6 sack, with fiber mesh concrete!  We paid $92.00 a yard, so much cheaper than CA (we paid about $112.00 a yard for 5 sack for the concrete we poured last year at Bryan's no fiber mesh)...The guys were gone around 0900 and we had a beautiful pad!  We paid the concrete guys $1000..for the 3 but was really worth it..they knew what they were doing and it turned out incredible!  Another bid we had was for $3700.00..that included concrete..but if you figure that we paid $1788 compared to $3700...duhhhh..and Ken doesn't think they would have gone with the 6 sack, fiber mesh...so we feel pretty good about this!

After that Ken decided to give our tractors their new home!  So I did a few things inside and the we moved the tractors from the garage to their new cover...love it! They look so good and I can see them out my kitchen window!  Which is what I wanted...Love it here at our new home in Yerington!!!!

Next week hopefully we'll get the garage painted its new colors, as the paint is pretty bad..
Click on the pictures and they will enlarge if u want!

Getting things done around the house...

Set the alarm for 0500...(we slept in)...decided we need to get some stuff done..so got ready and went out to the tractor cover...I took the red barn paint and painted the structure and Ken put the tin roofing on..we are one sheet short so we'll get it next time we're in Fernley..figure we're going to need a little lattice to protect the tires..so it'll happen but I think it really looks nice so far..

Then we got ready and went to Yerington, had lunch at the mexican restaurant...yummy and then went by the bank and got cash for the people finishing the concrete tomorrow..0700 they'll all be here..hopefully...

Got home I did some cleaning inside and Ken worked on getting the forms ready for the pour in the am..the concrete supplier, Chisum concrete came by just to make sure his driver could get there...but all looks good for the am..yeahh...can't wait to post pics tomorrow of the end result..

A little dinner and early bedtime...tomorrow comes early..Ken and I are both excited about this happening as i'm sure the grandkids will be..we're enjoying being here and having things get done..

Looks like if all goes as planned next week i'll start painting the garage..it needs it and i'm sick of this ugly blue house...meaning the outside....hahahahaha

Our new tractor cover!

Love this cover!  Can't wait to have our tractors inside!!

Sunset last night...

Ken forming up our 20x30 basketball court...
August 26th...Monday....We got up at 0400 and left the house at 0600....almost felt like going to work again...except better because we did that because  we wanted too!  Headed for the Wigwam Restaurant in Fernley where we had a yummy breakfast!  Then over to Lowe's to pick up our new woodstove and get the lumber for the forms and roofing for the tractor cover..

After that checked on Walmart and the burners, but not much there.

Got home and Ken set the forms for the basketball court and I went out and pulled some tumbleweeds out back where he was working...amazing how quickly they take over.
Had a nice night and just enjoyed being home.

August 27th..Tuesday...We did the same scenario as yesterday...except I made egg sandwiches and we ate on the road this am..a quick trip to Winnemucca to pick up some things from the containers, and Ken got the fifth wheel attachment so he can move the 23 footer to make it easier to pour the cement hopefully Thursday!  We got out there and visited with Joe and Wanda (our neighbors) for a few minutes.  Had lunch at the Chinese place in town and just love it...Back home around 1630 and had a little lightning and thunder show for a few minutes..

Love the weather here in Yerington!
