A sad day for Law Enforcement and a trip to Reno

Wednesday afternoon we were at home when our daughter in law Cheryl texted and told me that a Sacramento County Sheriff's Officer, Bob French had been killed and that two CHP Officers had been wounded in a stolen vehicle sting.  The Sheriff's office is where I retired from 7 1/2+ years ago.  Bob used to come in to the Service Center years ago.  He treated the volunteers and every one with respect and was always very friendly.  Such a nice man.  Our two sons Bryan and Russell work for the Sheriff's Department also. My brother in law Don and his wife Dana both retired from the CHP. Last I heard the 2 CHP officers were going to recover.

When something like this happens it affects the department, community and the whole blue line family.  So sad, he was 52 years old. 21 years working for the department.  A father and a grandfather too.

The bad guys were caught, with one being shot.

Of course we can't forget the victims and the Heroes of Hurricane Harvey...

Don sent this picture as the storm moved out of Texas and up into TN and other states..

Love his beautiful property..

Thursday morning we left home about 1000 hours.  WE didn't want to get there too early in case we couldn't get a site yet.  We stopped at Sam's Club in Reno on the way over to the KOA so we could pick up some hamburger patties and a few other things. We  settled into our spot about 1300.  Well, that's time for lunch so we had lunch in the trailer.  I made Ken a chicken salad sandwich and i had a salad.
Mt Rose, in a few months it will be covered with snow

Washoe Lake, still full

Our KOA

Our back in spot

Ken loves the back up camera on the Tundra..he didn't even touch

Our view of the river

It's filling up!

Smoke in Reno..

WE decided to go to Sears and do a little shopping as we had some points to spend.  No idea how much but figure no point in letting them go to waste.  Ken found a pair of jeans he needed and I found a long sleeve top for the upcoming winter ($2.99).  We had $13.00 in points so that definitely helped out on the bill.

Just about 1500 and we decided to head for Great Basin Brewery one of our favorite places in Reno.  1500 to 1800 is Happy Hour so why not.  I ended up with 2 glasses of their house chardonnay which is so good.  Ken had two 16 oz beers and then we headed back to camp.  Continued our Happy Hour at home.  It was hot but behind the trailer there was shade and a little breeze.  Veggie Burger for me and Salmon Burgers for Ken.  Some left over cole slaw and dinner was done.

Friday morning we were going to get up at 0530 but we didn't.  Too nice sleeping in, but oh well no biggie as we get to the Cook Off before it opens at 1030.  It gets so crowded so quickly.  Had a breakfast sandwich and then got ourselves going.  We got there just about 0940 and just started walking around taking pictures.  Yes, I took pictures!

After about an hour and half or so it was time to get out of there, the booths were open for business and it was getting too crowded to enjoy walking around. Ken was able to find a new hat to keep the sun off his ears.  Picture overload! *Click on the pic to enlarge*

Just North of Memphis...If I were to eat bar b q ribs this
would be it..dry rub and you put your own sauce on..

Their stand..they all are fairly expensive..woud hate to try
and feed a family..

Love how they brag..this one we could go to as it's from
Carson City..about 70 miles from us

Those taters look so awesome..

Ken chit chatting.that guy was proud of his ribs and every
thing else

Hahaha..

Ken looking for a new hat..he found one.

Great Basin Sparks NV

We headed over to Winco for some big shopping.  Love that store! Wish it wasn't 100 miles from home, but oh well.  Finished with that and we headed back to the trailer.  Put some stuff away and we munched some lunch/snack.
After that we headed over to Cabela's..now that can be a dangerous (expensive) store for my hubby haha. Not this time though we were on a mission to get the paper work for the quads so that we can get the last two registered.  Well, Cabela's is on the DMV list, but they don't do it?!  That was enough for Ken to be frustrated so we walked out without even visiting the gun counter!  I really don't understand why DMV doesn't do it, as they are the ones that process the registration, titles etc?  So we'll have to try somewhere else.  Carson City we'll be visiting on Thursday as it's time for the 45,000 mile service on the Tundra. So hopefully one of the atvs dealers will be able to get this done.

It was getting close to 1500 so we headed over to Great Basin again.  WE ordered a flight of beers and took sips.  Ken ended up with most of them, as I didn't like any of them.  So he finished that and then had a beer and i had a glass of wine.  We also ordered a ($1.00) pizza slice a piece and it was so good.
Back to camp, a little news, RV walk and Happy Hour.
Isn't this a cute little camper!

Clearer view yesterday..

I picked up a ready cooked chicken for dinner so a little coleslaw and I had a baked potato.  We're were stuffed!

This morning we didn't get up until 0700!  Got out of there around 1100 and home before 1300.  Unloaded and then lunch near 1320.

Once my chores were done, decided to update this blog..

  1. So sad to hear about the Police officers being killed and wounded. The BBQ sure looks like a very fun time, so many food choices.

  2. That is terrible news, heartbreaking when they are so young and trying to protect the citizens.
When we lived in the big city of London they held a Ribfest every year. Quite the popular place although we never ever took it in. Prices were ridiculous but that is just us 'cheapies' talking. :)
