Friday in the Big City and Saturday getting a little done

Left here on Friday about 0915 and didn't get back here till almost 1700.  That's what happens when we have to go to the Big City..whic is over 70 miles away.  The joys of living in the country...we'll take it!

Went by Walmart in Gardnerville first just to get it over with.  We were probably there over an hour, but go was needed on our list (yes for once i actually followed the list)..

Then by the bank and on to Lowe's in Carson City.  That took some time as well but we got everything on that list!  Got some more grout, a ceiling exhaust fan, the bathroom sink and some wood for Ken to build the vanity.  Definitely enough to keep him out of trouble for a few days, weeks, maybe a month or more to come.  Gotta admit we're both feeling the camping itch coming on..but actually enjoying getting the RUDB to exist NO MORE!

Had a quick lunch at the Chinese place we really like in CC and then on to Michaels and headed home.

Yesterday, Ken started tiling the last wall of the tub and it's looking great. He's going to need a new diamond blade so there will be a quick trip to Fernley in the near future.  He's got other stuff to keep him busy till Monday or Tuesday.

I was all set to head over the hill to a place in Shingle Springs called Under the Arbor.  It's an antique, collectibles type store  (never been)..they were having about 35 vendors come in to their parking lot for a sale day today.  The weather cancelled it until next weekend so i'll head there next Sunday for a quick one day turnaround.  Hoping to meet up with my sisters and it looks like Christina wants to go too..so should be a good day! Ken doesn't want me to take the truck, can't imagine why?! :)

So yesterday I started a little project, simple but it dresses up towels, just a bit.. and yesterday I made up a steel wool and vinegar mixture so i'll try that on some pine, just to see if I can age it a bit..so we'll see..

Plain brown hand towel

With a little decoration..today is the bath towels...

We've got grout on 1 3/4 walls!

A beautiful day in Yerington, NV yesterday!  78 degrees and a small breeze...

Ken got started on grouting the tile..figured he'd have enough grout to do the two walls that are finished..well, the grout said it would do 50 square feet..we figured about 37.5..and it covered about 3/4 of that.  We bought the stuff ready mixed and it has sealer built in..He said it was really sticky, but in the end what is done is beautiful!  Dried a little lighter than what we thought, but that's ok..

I'm so loving this bathroom!  Never thought i'd say that the way it looked for the last 3 years.  Only went in to clean (and that was tough)...

Today, is a visit to Gardnerville Wal Mart and then on to Carson City Lowe's and Kohls..they have some towels on sale so I have a project in mind....

Pretty much means nothing will get done here at home, but gotta have those days once in awhile!

Happy Friday!

Got some shiplap and tin up in the RUDB!

Got going this morning after a restless night for me.  I hate it when that happens!  Ken sprayed some weed killer in the yard, as it looks like our friendly dandelions are coming back.  They took over last year, looked pretty and then they died..Our sprayer from Northern Tool shipped today, so I know he'll be happy to get that!

Ken got the tin and shiplap up today in the RUDB! Well, he got it up on the wall as you enter the bathroom, I'm in love with it!  The pictures don't do it justice as the bathroom is small and the pics look overpowering to me..but it looks awesome!  Tomorrow he's planning on grouting the one wall next too the tin and we'll see how it looks!  He hates grouting, so one wall at a time!

We've been talking about what to do with the ceiling, so right now we're thinking we're going with the same wood we put up in the hallway.  We thought about the ceiling that's in the other parts of the house, but really doesn't work for me..and Ken agrees!

So here's a few pics of today's work....

Above the tile area of the bathroom, I'm thinking we've decided to go with tin..

More work on the RUDB!

Yesterday and today we got some more work done on the RUDB.  Ken worked on the tile and then actually cut the first sheet of tin!  Again with a remodel there's always something that doesn't fit right or has to be rethought...

Pretty much the finished job..I did fine tune and sand a bit this am..

I worked on the cabinet for the bathroom and we really like how it turned out. Yesterday I stained the Shiplap and today it got a coat of satin varnish..Can't wait for it  to go up!

Piece on the left is Shiplap in it's natural state and the others are
after I stained them..

Today Ken finished the second wall of the tub / shower!  Love it!

Yesterday he got within 3 rows of finishing the second wall

Done!

He's cutting the first piece of tin

Bryan and Cheryl worked on their garden today.  They took down the huge doughboy they had for many years and decided to turn the area into a garden. Bryan used some of the metal from the pool to make some raised beds..looks like it's going to be a really nice area and yield tons of veggies ....

Don sent this really cool picture..he and his neighbor Bobby Bills were working a field and Bobby brought this cool pull behind..it was built by a blacksmith in Lynnville, TN over 50 years ago..

And a few pics Adam sent from his trip to see his friend Daniel in Laguna Beach...

Yeah it was a tough week for him....

Hanging around the house...

Just enjoying being home and working on the tin outside.  The weather is really nice here lately.  The only thing that screws it up is those pesky gnats!  Can't wait until they're gone.

Yesterday, Ken talked with our neighbor, Joe.  Joe is big into mining and owns a couple of claims in NV.  His newest one is in Hawthorne, just about an hour from here.  So Ken took a few hours off working around here and went with Joe to see what it was all about.  He really enjoyed himself, and after all the work he's done around here lately, he deserved a few hours to enjoy with Joe.

I worked on the tin, and finally it's looking to the point that I'm satisfied with how it is turning out.  We were commenting the other day in Lowe's that because it's so popular to age the tin, we don't know why they don't manufacture it that way!  I'd pay more not to have to do it!  Oh well, guess I can look at it and say "I did that"...

We bought a little one gallon sprayer the other day, to hold us over until the pull behind gets here, so after Ken got back he used that and sprayed some of the weeds near the house.

I started another small project in the afternoon.  We had two big wall hanging cabinets in the bathroom, decided to only put one back up as we don't want to hide the wall once its done.  So decided to "shabby chic" the cabinet..hard to get used to just throwing some paint on rather than being perfect..haha..

The cabinet...before
one of the doors..
1st coat..will have 3 coats and colors before it's done

and one of the doors..In my mind it's going to look great..so we'll see...

Well..we know how to spend a day.....

Got up this am, not in a hurry and headed for Carson City..we knew we had places to go..got a few miles and headed for Gardnerville, decided to get Walmart out of the way as that's not our favorite place to shop...

Got that out of the way and headed for Lowe's in Carson City..spent a long while there..so that when we got done we spent a bit of money and then we were starving!  So off to our favorite Chinese place and stuffed our tummies!

After that, Batteries Plus to get the quad battery and then head for home!  Got home about 1700..again it's a case that none of the places is like going next door...Carson City is about 70 miles from us..so we better make it count!

We did get the grout for the tile..I got the paint for the cabinet..and some more screws etc..a cheap sprayer..as this morning I ordered a pull behind sprayer from Northern Tool..hopefully it will be here by next weekend.. oh yeah we stopped by Tractor Supply in Minden and got some concentrated weed spray..

We were welcomed home by the gnats we had last year...they suck!  We tried sitting outside and they find their way inside and drive us crazy outside...uhhh..hate them!  Hopefully they're only here for a few weeks..or we'll have to leave and come back ....I guess because it was like 70 something today they're around...

Had a beautiful rainbow...

Russ and Lori spent the day with Basketball, Aaron and Russell were in Benicia for Basketball..and Lori was in Lincoln with Jacob...

A beautiful day in Yerington so the metal aging got started!

Awoke to a beautiful, cool morning in Yerington.  It warmed up nicely, so Ken laid out the metal so I could get started on that.  He worked in the bathroom until he ran out of adhesive for the tile..it's really looking good!

So i'll let the pictures tell the story....

This is how the metal looks before the "aging"

Step one...paint the tin with Clorox blue gel...

Step two..you can see the one on the right is step 1 the one in the middle
step two...painting with a paste of Clorox blue gel..and baking soda

All six panels with step 2..according to the website.."This is
where the magic happens"..hope so..I used this last time for the
hallway tin..but first I had used a different solution..so really hoping
this does it..

Looking good..I am really happy this is the tile we picked!

Giving an idea of what it'll look like!

Today we're expecting to have real wifi in the house!  Somewhere between 1100 and 1400!

Tomorrow we'll head for Carson City Lowe's and Batteries Plus..Ken's quad need  a new battery so we'll pick that up along with a whole long list at Lowe's .  Pretty much the day will be shot! Ken's brother Don is helping us pick with tow behind sprayer we need.  Believe it or not even living in the desert we've got grass and weeds popping up..

And this little cutie...

Owen in his Arkansas Razorback shirt we got him at Christmas
Actually was supposed to be part of birthday, but I couldn't find it
with all the Christmas stuff...gotta start him off early!!

Have a wonderful day everyone!
