Adam visits, Heading for Silver Springs and Best in the Desert Race this week

 A quick blog post as we're leaving this morning! Yay! It's that time of year again for Best in the Desert, Vegas to Reno.  

Adam called on Sunday wanting to know what we were doing on Monday. I told him we wouldn't be home as we were going to Reno.  He decided to come anyway and spend the night.  😁💙

We got home from next door just as he was getting out of his truck. Monday morning we all left about the same time. He headed for Bridgeport and possibly camping and we headed for Reno and Total Wine.  Then Walmart in Carson City for some grocery shopping. It was about 1400 when we walked into Betsy's Big Kitchen. 

I sent Adam off on his drive with a sandwich and chips...

We pulled into the driveway and Adam's truck was there.  He got home about an hour before us. Because of the smoke in Bridgeport he didn't feel like hiking or camping so he came back.  😃

We visited awhile and Ken cooked some chicken for him.  Went next door and visited with the doggies there for a bit.  Some tv at home then bedtime.

Tuesday morning after breakfast Adam headed home to CA.  I followed Ken to Silver Springs to drop the 73 Dodge off at Johnny's property.  Johnny, Kelly, Joel and Randi had just arrived when we pulled in.

We had a nice short visit while they were getting set up and then we headed home. 

I spent he afternoon making 7 layer dip and some deviled eggs to take to the gathering in Silver Springs.

Ken brought the Mansion to the driveway so it'll be easy to load up.  We're leaving this morning.  It's only about 1/2 hour away which really makes it nice.  The only drawback to this trip is the heat!  They're expecting triple digits all week!! Hopefully there will be a breeze, but we'll see. 

Not much cell or wifi service in Silver Springs.  

Thursday we will meet the group in Gabbs, NV for lunch about 105 miles away from the camp.  They'll take their side by sides on a backroad ride. We'll take the truck and whoever else wants to ride in a/c...LOL.  

The race is on Friday and we'll be home on Saturday.  Should be some fun filled days!

 The days just seem to get away from me!  Here we are coming upon Friday morning already.  It's August 6th which means it is Ken's brother Don's birthday. Happy Birthday Don, hope you have a great day!

This week we went to Walmart for some groceries, were pleased to see that even with mask mandate in Nevada, about 90% weren't masked! Our dictator would not be happy! 

Yesterday we were pleased to hear the County Commissioners of Lyon County voted to name our county justice center "The Donald J.Trump Justice Center".  People in rural Nevada are all Trump fans and very strongly against Biden.  There are a lot of happy people with this name change. The name change is being paid for by donations, lots of donations! 

We did spend one day over at Karen's just goofing off, swimming, sunning and the barbecuing. The dogs were happy we were there! John and Karen will be home this weekend to pick up their fifth wheel. They bought a beautiful 39 foot Solitude while in southern CA so they're trading this one in. It'll be a short stay here. 

Ken's worked on his project.  Because we don't need two toy haulers we've decided to make the cab over camper an extra guest house.  Remember how high it was to accommodate the CANAM?  It's been quite the chore for him to get it down and off the trailer.  He's got to put it on another trailer to get it into the spot he wants and then get the cabover off that trailer. Lots of work, but he'll get it done.

We bought it in 2005 to go ATV ing with our kids and their friends.  It's been on several trips to Tennessee to visit Don and our friend Clif.  It's been to South Padre Island and many places in between. In other words we can't get rid of it! Too many wonderful memories.  It's in great shape other than the fridge doesn't work, but we can get a dorm sized and put it in there. It'll have water, electricity and tied into our septic system. 

I spent most of the day painting one of our tuff sheds.  Eventually we will have the house, garage and the sheds painted. We did it 8 1/2 years ago and it's time to freshen them up! This Nevada sun is hard on everything! 

I'll be painting the red cement in the near future too...

Waking up to a very smoky morning, no blue skies like yesterday. We were going to Reno today, but remembered it's Hot August Nights week there so we'll wait until after the weekend. Have a great day! I've got a breakfast date to get ready for! 😋

We left here Thursday just before 1100 and were at Walker River State Recreation Area just a little after 1130.  Perfect trip LOL.  About 1/2 the campsites were full so we pulled into number 18, the last on the loop. The campsites are huge, mostly pull throughs and some with 2 electric and water hookups, 50/30 amps.  There's a nice shade cover, picnic table and fire pit.  Showers are available too. We only have to pay $10.00 a night for the hookups as we pay $30.00 a year for a Nevada State Parks pass. $25.00 or $30.00 for everyone else. If we chose a site with no hookups it would be free. Nice fringe benefit.

We got set up and then took the Can Am out for a short ride before having lunch. There's so many roads out there you could ride for days.

After lunch we decided to head out again.  I was driving this time (so no pictures LOL) It was warm and cloudy. About 8 1/2 miles out it started raining! A few drops to start and then more! We decided to turn around and head for camp.  The rain got harder and was really pelting! Luckily we both had hats on which helped.  We took the towel I was sitting on and put it across the both of us and helped the rain not hurt so much. I drove slowly home  and by the time we got back it had warmed up and quit (of course).  Think i'll be buying some cheap ponchos to keep in the Can AM. haha.

We were able to sit outside and enjoy Happy Hour. A little later Ken barbecued some awesome burgers for dinner.  I got the pilot light lit in Nellie but couldn't get the oven to heat up.  The oven looks like it's never been used it's so clean, so who knows. One more project for Ken to look at. Either way it was a nice night. 

The air conditioner ran the whole time we were there and did an amazing job along with the refrigerator, so we sure can't complain for the price we paid! 

Friday morning we slept in and got up around 0730.  We decided to take a drive out before having breakfast so it would be more of a brunch.  A great morning for a ride!

We got out of there just before 1300 and arrived home at 1330. Ken discovered he lost a lock he had on the back of the trailer so we dropped Nellie off and got in the car to see if we could find it. No luck! 

After getting back home, unloaded a few things but it was hot. That's what mornings are for. We eventually ventured out front and had a nice Happy Hour.  Karen came over for a bit and she was leaving Saturday morning to visit John in CA for a few weeks. We'll be looking out for the doggies once more.  

I ran to Raley's Saturday afternoon and am pleased to say there was only 3 people in the busy store with masks on.  Too bad for the employees having to wear them again, vaccinated or not. Our dictator (governor) says the new mask mandate will last at least 2 weeks, we'll see what they come up with next. 

We did go over and have Happy Hour with Lila and Mugsy. Ken went back later in the evening to put them to bed.

Today (Sunday) was a baking morning for Ken's goodies. Some for me too 😋 

A new batch of good for you cookies, muffins and a new mini strawberry cheesecake..
All sugar free..meaning no sugar of any kind added..not for everyone but it works for us..Almond flour is the base..

We'll head over to Karen's a little later, barbecue, hang with the doggies and spend the night there. Tomorrow is a trip to Walmart for groceries.  

We've decided to get rid of the "toy hauler" Ken made about a year ago.  Having Nellie we don't need two.  If what we have planned works, I'll tell you about it tomorrow. If it doesn't they'll be another story to tell...

Monday Adam and Erin left to take a drive to French Meadows.  I was at the house and just enjoyed the day.  

Once Adam and Erin came home in the later afternoon we ordered pizzas from Terry's in town. We weren't sure when Bryan, Cheryl and Mia would be back from Idaho but we knew they'd be ready to eat. 

It was around 2030 when Bryan pulled into the driveway.  We visited and enjoyed a Happy Hour together.  I didn't go to bed until 2345 with Bryan right behind me.  A great visit!

Tuesday morning I was up and outside about 0600. A beautiful morning before the heat hit! Cheryl made a wonderful breakfast of bacon, eggs, english muffins and homemade blackberry jam! Yes, I did enjoy it! 

Bryan took my car to the car wash and filled the tank.  Once he got back home he vacuumed the car to get out all the Lucy hair :) I left shortly after to head home. 

Adam said to Erin, "Let's go to the beach" so they left before I did. Love their adventurous spirit!! 

I visited BevMo in Auburn before heading out. Bryan gave us a gift certificate, which he shouldn't have done. I spent it and more, got a couple of bottles of wine I haven't tried before. 

I pulled into the driveway just after 1500.  

Ken said Karen had called and she couldn't go camping after all. She had forgotten her mom had a biopsy she needed to take her to.  

I looked at my phone and had a text message from Cheryl.  Bryan was coming home in her car from getting chicken food and it overheated liquid spewing everywhere. Oh no, he was waiting for a tow truck for the 2nd time in less than a week! Our plans for camping changed too! 

Wednesday morning we left here in two cars heading for Georgetown once again. We dropped off our orange Patriot for them to use for as long as they need it (hoping it doesn't fall apart) LOL.  The garage can't look at Cheryl's car until next Thursday. 

We visited for a few minutes and then we headed home.  Once we got to Gardnerville we headed for Sharkey's, a casino with a great restaurant.  It was after 1600, so this was dinner.  YUM!

Once we were home, we sat outside and enjoyed Happy Hour watching the sun go down.

We're heading to Walker River State Recreation Area this morning for an overnight camping trip. Karen won't be going, but we figure we were almost ready anyway. Maiden voyage with "Nellie" (the motorhome) and the CanAm. It'll be warm but they do have water and electrical hookups.  A little barbecuing for dinner.

AMAZING!  I don't know the artist (Chris Janson) but he sure got the sold out crowd moving! 

 I did get out of the house by about 1030 and headed to Georgetown, CA where our oldest son and his wife live.  I first headed to Antelope to drop off some beer we've been keeping for our youngest son, Russell from when we were camping. Wouldn't really matter if it was regular beer but this was some craft brews that we picked up specifically for him and Lori.

I was lucky enough to find Lori at home so we were able to chat for a little bit. 

Headed to G town and got there around 1530.  Cheryl was just getting ready to text me that it was wine time!  We enjoyed getting caught up and they showed me my duties for the next few days. 

 

They have a contest for best campsite..this one's pretty good!

Cheryl made a nice salad (always tastes better when someone else makes it) and some zucchini crisps in the oven.  Around 1800 Adam showed up to spend the night. Always nice to see grandsons!

Adam was leaving early so I set the alarm for 0500 so I could make him a breakfast sandwich for the road.  He left about 0540 as he had about an hours drive to his barracks at work.  

Bryan and Cheryl got out of here around 0730 I think headed for Caldwell, Idaho.  The dogs and I had a nice leisurely day here at their home. I did some reading, computing etc.  Stuff I don't do at home during the day because there's always something to keep me busy 😊

After putting the chickens to bed I was going to have a glass of wine outside, nope too hot.  So the dogs and I enjoyed some time together in the house. They don't like being out in the heat either 😅

Talked with Bryan for a bit.  They had a nice long drive but they made it! He sent me a couple of pictures with Cheryl reading to the little grandkids..thinking they're glad grandma came to visit / babysit.

We went to bed about 2130 or so.  Raider on the chair in the room I'm in and Daisy started off on the bed with me.  Sometime in the middle of the night she left. About 0430 I was awake and feel this big bump on the bed, tail wagging Raider jumped on the bed to finish his night 😄 I laid there awhile and at 0545 got up for coffee.

Another slow, hot day.  Ken should be here in a bit.  

We had a nice surprise, Adam came to spend the night again. I made some tacos and we all had an enjoyable evening.  

Sunday morning Adam left to go to work for his "Friday".  Ken left in the morning after breakfast to visit with his mom in Carmichael for a bit before heading back home.

I had headed to Mar Val, the grocery store next to Bryan's property and got a call from middle son, Eric.  He was at Bryan's house so I quickly picked up a few things and hurried back.  A little later grandson Mason came to visit too! :) We had a nice visit for quite awhile.

Adam got back here around 1600 with Erin not too far behind. Visited awhile and then I ordered Chinese from the place in town. I cheated on Ken! We haven't had Chinese in over 18 months, I couldn't resist! Yum and way too much food.  

Szechuan chicken...Ken will get some of this tomorrow! 

Right before we left to pick it up, Mason called so I took his order and by the time we got back he had just pulled up. A really nice evening with the kids.

Talked with Bryan and they'll be heading home Monday. Hopefully they're taking a different route home, just because they can! 

This morning (Monday) I was up about 0530 waiting on coffee LOL.  It's warm and a bit overcast.  Did my chores getting the chickens fed and out of their coop, gathering eggs, watering the veggies and some plants and playing with the doggies.  By then Adam and Erin were up.  

I made egg sandwiches for them as they discussed what to do with their day together. They've decided to head for French Meadows and some swimming. Those two love to go! Raider isn't happy, he misses his "boy" when he's gone. 

Bryan, Cheryl and granddaughter Mia will be here later today and I'll head home in the am.  

We're planning on an overnight camping trip with Karen and her grandson Cameron on Wednesday.  Our first time taking the motorhome out and her first time taking her vintage 1972/73? motorhome out too. Quick trip but better than nothing :)
