Cathedral Gorge to Ryan Kershaw State Park and now we're at Great Basin NP...

Happy 16th Birthday, Adam Kay!!

Today our first grandson turns 16!  Got his learners permit yesterday, so a drivers license in 6 months.  He would have got it sooner but basketball got in the way.  Happy Birthday Adam!  I find it so hard to believe I have a grandson who's 16 as I still remember my 16th birthday like it was last week! Looks like we'll be seeing Adam and family this weekend, oldest son Bryan turns 42 on Sunday!  Hoping to get to see Eric and family too, as Eric's birthday was earlier this week.

Had an amazing time at Cathedral Gorge...we left yesterday and headed back into Caliente and then a few miles to Ryan Kershaw State Park.  A woman we had talked to at Cathedral Gorge, said that Ryan Kershaw was her favorite park, even better than Cathedral Gorge.  So we pulled in, paid $15.00 for camping, made lunch for a picnic, unhooked and off we went.  The rocks are so incredible, looks a lot like Zion NP in Utah...so we're ready for an amazing experience! Drive about 1/2 mile and that's it...the road stops. uhhh...oh well so we get out take a little walk through the gardens and then to some horribly overgrown trail and turn around.  We spent a total of 7 or 8 minutes there and that's it...So back to the trailer, hooked up, and lunch in the trailer and off we go...so yes we spent $15.00 for  camping we didn't do, but really it was 1230 and so we decided to move on.

We thought we'd move up the road to Echo Canyon SP where we had been the day before, but on the way saw Ely, NV was only 120 miles...well, Ely is near enough to Great Basin NP where we have been many times, so here's where we are for two nights.  With Ken's senior pass only $3.00 a night....and we love it here!

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we'll head home, about 380 miles but we're gonna do it in one day! That'll give us a day or so to get ready to head to CA for the weekend.

Again, shocking i have service here...but no pics till we get home....

Happy 40th Birthday Eric!!! and 2nd day at Cathedral Gorge and surrounding areas...

Hard to believe but 40 years ago I gave birth to our 2nd son Eric Edward...He came into this world at 0348 am weighing 9 lbs 4 1/2 ounces...now he is the greatest dad, husband and son he could be (in my opinion)...Eric has always had the sweetest heart...Love u Eric!

I still can't believe my baby boys are 40+  years old...I so remember when each of them were born and it just seems like it just happened! We are so blessed to have the sons we have!..

We got up this am and headed out...there was a turnoff a little north of here called Miller's Point..so thought we'd take a look...We took a little walk and I decided it wasn't for me..Ken went ahead for the 1 mile walk and I met him at the end which was day use at campground..he beat me there, so we don't think it was a mile but he had a great walk) so picked him up and headed for Echo Canyon State Park...awesome...we got there and they had a sign that said...1-20 campgrounds...obviously brand new...full hookups! and they had showers too...nice place,..we would pay 23 a night until Ken turns 65 and then only 10 a night for the hookups as 65 in Nevada for $30 a year you  can camp free except for hookups..

Then we were headed for Spring Valley Campground..but by the time we got to the turn off we decided to head back to the cammpground...as we weren't sure how long it would take to get there...(turns out only about 6 miles or so)....so we drove the road and about 1300 we were ready for lunch..pulled over to a probable heliocopter site and got out drinks, chips, napkins...and I said where are the sandwiches..Ken said "in the bag?...nope...still at camp in the frig...what?!   Well this am I made up our sandwiches...but we needed ice in the ice chest..so we said let's keep the sandwiches cold till we leave..well.....neither one of us remembered to take them out when we left..we assumed the other did...oh well!  Came back to camp, had lunch, then headed for Kershaw Ryan State Park..to check it out..We will probably end up there tomorrow..had an awesome drive today..but with internet so slow...no pics...

So tomorrow we'll probably head 18 miles or so to the park...again...subject to change..

I have lots of pics to post but they'll have to wait for more service!

Rachel, NV to Cathedral Gorge State Park....awesome!

We left the campground about 1000 this am and arrived at the campground at Cathedral Gorge about 1230..just in time to make some lunch and enjoy the incredible view!

From the campground Highway 375

Joshua trees..love them!

The drive here was beautiful!  Hardly any cars on the road at all!  Such incredible beautiful scenery!  I know people don't understand our love for Nevada and honestly the pictures don't do it justice..but I love the lack of people in most places (Reno and Las Vegas excluded)..but the beauty that is here is just so amazing...love watching the scenery change.

The little town of Caliente, NV ...we both said "we could live here"..so beautiful, just too far away from the grandkids...

So here we are at the campground enjoying the view.  We took a walk over to the gorge itself and looked into some of the hoodoos, which remind us both so much of Bryce Canyon in Utah.  Different but still the same..some even look like Antelope Canyon in Az only not so expensive and you go at your own pace..
From our campsite the walk to day use..this was an old water tower the
CCC built to gravity feed water..the water was too high in alkali
so it was only operational for a few years..

Inside the cathedral caves!  I have many more pics
that I will post later!  They are incredible!!

The weather is something else too..Clear blue skies, then we watched it change to cloudy and it looks like rain, but who knows because the weather changes every 5 minutes or so...love it!

The internet is so slow...I will have to update pictures later ..and I have many! but just wanted to post an idea of what we are seeing from our rear dining window!

Eric and Family are in Santa Clara with Tim (who as a teen stayed with us for a couple of years)..and his little family to watch Supercross...Tomorrow Eric turns 40!! Amazing how the years go by!

Tomorrow we have walk to take to an overlook and then check out a few other campgrounds.  We'll b here in our spot for another night.

Our UFO encounter last night!

The UFO's have landed!

Yerington, NV to Rachel, NV...

Had a beautiful drive this morning along highway 95 to NV 6 to 93 and tonight we're here at the Little Ale Inn..such a cute place for being in the middle of nowhere!

We're along highway 95 looking towards highway 395 near
the turn off for Bishop, CA...

Our favorite hotel in Tonopah, NV right Russell?

Highway 6 outside Tonopah...where we had lunch..

Loved the rest area on 6..so clean, big and spaces that looked like pull
through campgrounds..

Highway 375 towards Rachel, NV...love it!

The tow truck and a UFO!

Art on the building...
Where we are staying tonight...

This was an interesting piece on our rv walk...hmmm..on the
door it says Groom Lake Yacht Club..ok...

This is a good stopping point on the way to Cathedral Gorge..they have motel rooms, (trailers with rooms) not sure i'd want to stay in one, but it might be ok...since there's nothing else for another 70 miles or so..not even sure if there's anything there.. Their little restaurant/bar smells good, but we've got our own dinner tonight.  Not exactly a place you'd want to bar b q at but for $15.00 a night it'll work for tonight.
A four spot rv park with electrical, water and good wi fi..go figure.  All four spots are filled so glad we got here
early.  Tomorrow should be an easy day to Cathedral Gorge..if I can get a signal i'll post, if not don't worry...

Headed out this am

Headed out this am to visit Cathedral Gorge State Park in eastern NV...kinda south too I think.  Got the trailer all loaded up and we're outta here in a bit..looks pretty remote over there so don't know if we'll have service or not..If we do yo know i'll be back with some awesome pics..if not i'll be back when we get home sometime next week.

Not much else going on here in Yerington..

A camping trip on the horizon!

Ken had a nice visit with his family in Ca.  Don is on his way back home today with daughter Jennifer and granddaughter Bella.

I spent the last couple of days just cleaning and putting the house back in order after the kids.

Today, Ken and I decided to head for Fernley to pick up a hedge trimmer so he could trim the Junipers out front..and trim he did!

The trees before

The other two ...after..

Ken put together our new treadmill.  We had one in Weimar, and then took it to Winnemucca, but sadly it wore out after we got it here...it actually got pretty dangerous, as the machine would stop when you were running on it..not good. So we ordered this one from Walmart and put it in the kids room for now, when they come then we'll move it to the garage.
The new treadmill...

Tomorrow we'll head for Carson City to a sale at Kohls...tennis shoes and new towels are on the agenda.  Probably a stop at Walmart for groceries in Gardnerville too..

We've decided Friday to head for Cathedral Gorge NV for a few days camping..we haven't had the Jayco out since we had it serviced so we thought why not take a few days and go.  About 360 miles from here.  Haven't been there before so figure let's check it out.
