Mason..over the hill..Carson City..home again..Adam's coming for a visit!

It wasn't a too exciting time for Mason while he was here, but I think he enjoyed the vacation before heading back to 9th grade.  We were able to take him out to lunch twice. Once at Dini's and once at Sherry's Stage Stop.  Dini's Casino definitely the better of the lunch's but always nice to try a new place.

Friday we thought we were going to have Bella over for a bit, but she ended up going to stay with her dad in the southern CA area.  It was a surprise for all let's say.  Teenage girls!

Thursday and Friday Ken and Mason went on quad rides so I know he enjoyed that.  Friday we touched base with Eric and he offered to meet me in Verdi, near the CA NV border.  He's very sweet that way.  We planned on meeting at 1100 and I was going to buy him lunch :) Saturday morning we're up and going when we checked the weather and found it was snowing over the hill. uh oh..Eric has a four wheel drive truck but would cost a fortune to drive over the hill and we knew the traffic would suck.  He works for a living, we don't so figured we had more time than he does.

Mason heading out

Some of the way Mason spent his time

We got on the road about 0900.  Before we left home Ken said we should take a change of clothes just in case we didn't come home.  Good idea. We hit traffic about 4 miles before the chain up area near Donner.  Oh boy.  It didn't look bad but the sign said chains required.  About 2 miles before, traffic started moving slowly YAY!  Bottom line it took us about 4 hrs and 15 minutes to get to Auburn from home, so not too bad.  We met Eric and Christina at Edelweiss Restaurant and enjoyed a great lunch and visit 💖💙

After lunch we said good bye to them and to Mason.  We'll see them again on the 10th at Old Town Pizza in Roseville for Jacob's good bye party :( :) Mixed emotions..Very proud of him!

On the way over I made reservations for that night in Carson City at the Days Inn we've stayed many times. Got a great rate.  We stopped at Total Wine in Reno on the way to Carson.  Because of our late lunch, no dinner needed.
I love this pic of Seth face timing his parents

Saturday morning we woke up about 0700!  We were out of there around 0900 and headed to Betsy's Big Kitchen for a wonderful breakfast and hugs from Carmen :)  They have the best coffee and it's only $1.00!  Afterwards we headed for Lowe's and picked up some briquets and a new propane bottle.  Then to Walmart for some much needed shopping.   After that we headed home getting here around 1400.  Ken wanted enchiladas and coleslaw for dinner so I worked on that for awhile.  Karen called around 1600 and invited us over for burgers and dogs, we declined but agreed to head over for Happy Hour.

Kids and grandkids were there and they started a huge fire. Conversation flowed as did the wine (to be expected right?)  We headed home around 1900.
Karen's grandkids out by the fire..
They are the sweetest kids :)

Had a great dinner. Ken enjoyed his and I enjoyed my veggie enchilada. There's enough for leftovers tonight so I'm liking that!!

Today (Monday) was a stay at home day.   I did a little baking as we were out of treats as of today.  Some cleaning also as I asked Ken about putting some shelves in the closet that is/ was the boys room (the green room).  Now that they are all grown it's changed into a guest room.  I pulled most of the games etc out of there and will be donating to the Boys and Girls Club Thrift Shop in town.  Hopefully some other younger boys can enjoy. Bittersweet to say the least 😔

Grandson Adam called this morning.  He's been on a mini vacation this week so he took a trip to Bend, Oregon to see a friend of his.  Yes, our little gypsy.  He's been on his own for a few days so said he'd like to come here for a day or so before he heads back to work. Of course we said we would love to have him.  He was stopping by Lava Beds National Monument and we would either see him tonight or tomorrow. :0 Just got a text he's headed here..should be here in a couple of hours :)

Russell and Jacob were able to go fishing yesterday with Russell's friend Jimmy..had to steal a couple of pics from FB...
Russell with a catch

That green pole was Russell's Christmas present this year :)

Our Sailor to be next week...Jacob!

Again another catch...

Enjoying a glass of wine with the hubby right now and decided I need to get this done once again.  Have a good evening!

  1. You certainly are having a wonderful start to the New Year, minus not feeling well to bring it in. How great that your grandsons want to come and spend time with you guys.
Your neighbor's grandkids are certainly little cuties.
    Take care. Hugs

  2. I've never been over Donner Pass and I've never put chains on a tire. I'm thankful for that. The boys look like they had fun. Wheelies - fishing - eating - hanging out. Can't beat that.

    1. When we were teenagers Ken would put chains on when needed but not for a long time now. We always have a vehicle with 4 wheel drive. Yep boys will be boys!

  3. You certainly have been busy. Perfect way to start the new year, except for the Donner Pass part. I'm a big time skier, but I've never gotten use to driving in the snow.

  4. We aren't crazy about it but feel better knowing we have 4 wheel drive! It's the idiots who think they don't need it and then lie to the chain checkers. Nice to know CHP will ticket these people with an expensive ticket!
