A great trip to Bodega Bay! Allissa's visiting Jacob!

Wednesday morning we left the house heading for Bodega Bay by way of Highway 50.  The road work on 50 now doesn't make that way much fun.  It took us 4 hours to go 116 miles and that was from home.  Traffic just backs up and I can imagine if they are working on the weekends. Once we hit Placerville traffic was much better.

We arrived in Bodega Bay about 1600 if I remember correctly. Definitely later than we wanted.  The park wasn't full even though every site had reserved signs on them.  We found our spot #6 and proceeded to get set up.  This is a Sonoma County Park, Westside.  $37.00 a night. No hookups, but a dump station ($7.00, used to be free) and showers.  There are water spigots in the park too. Dillon Beach where we always used to go is no running $50.00 to $58.00 a night and there you have porta potties and a dump station. Not cheap to camp along the coast anymore. We haven't been in almost 2 1/2 years when Ken was having problems with his lungs. Then we rented a house as a good bye to Seth when he was getting ready to head into the Marines. πŸ’–πŸ’™ Great times then too, but nowadays renting a house, is too expensive because of the extra fees they add on. Geez!
Highway 37 going over the bay..

Spud's Marina on the way to campground..

Love seeing little ones on the beach!

I had brought some pork steaks so Ken barbecued those for dinner along with Italian Green Beans and a red potato it was a great dinner.

WE had a nice fire going and enjoyed the evening.

Thursday morning we weren't worried about getting up at a special time.  We slept in until 0730! That's late for us! The day flew by! We walked the park and then got in the truck and headed for Doran County Park just a few miles down the road.  Wanted to check out their sites for a future trip. Been there several times, just not in a long time.

We headed back in to Petaluma to get gas, as out on the coast it's over $5.00 a gallon. Not much better there but $4.65 a gallon in Petaluma.  We went through old town (very nice) and then finally found the gas station we wanted. Headed back to camp.

WE then drove to the top of Bodega Head just to look at the view. Gorgeous up there but very windy. Back to camp for Happy Hour, another fire and barbecue. Calling it a night eventually.

The road to Bodega Head..

Friday morning we set the alarm as we didn't want to sleep again. Wouldn't have been a problem as I was up before the alarm went off :) While I made breakfast Ken made the decision that it was a Bloody Mary and Mimosa morning. Who am I to complain?! After breakfast we took our drinks outside and enjoyed the wonderful sunshine!
The bad influence strikes again! LOL.

I made lunch and we gathered some chairs etc and headed to the day use area of Doran.  It's right on the ocean so it's beautiful! We spent a couple of hours there until it was time to head back.  Ken wanted to dump last night because we'd be leaving early Saturday morning as we were headed to Sacramento and wanted to get the Mansion parked before other people start arriving at the party.

Allissa sent this last night πŸ’—πŸ’–
She's in Italy visiting Jacob for the next
few weeks!! πŸ’–πŸ’–

The campground was packed every single site and more! Always love seeing happy people out camping.  Little families too! It sure felt normal! We had a nice evening once again.  Ken barbecued hamburgers that we had on Keto 1 carb buns and zucchini fries YUM YUM!

We set the alarm for 0430 so we could get out of there and to Sacramento at an early time.  We succeeded, we're here just waiting for the party to start!

  1. Great pictures. I haven't been there in many moons. Any time you're by the ocean is a good time!!

  2. Many many years ago we stayed at a Sonoma County park. It was right off Hwy.1. The host told us about a trail that took you right to the ocean. That's where I learned you don't play around with those waves. Elva

    1. WE watched some woman on the rocks as the tide was coming in, we figure she got wet one way or another. This trail took you from Bodega Head to the ocean. I'm way too old for that! LOL.
