Leaving Santa Rosa NM and heading for Holbrook AZ....NOT!

At about 1030 the snow quit and we made the decision to leave figuring the interstate would be clear and it was...for a few miles...then STOP....we figured an accident..and obviously a couple of hours later of sitting on the freeway we saw a couple of big rigs on tow trucks with front end damage....gee what does that tell ya?!  After about 4 hours we moved on and then a few miles again we stopped....damn...and we waited...and we waited...and then we moved on..then the sun is setting and it's getting cold and dark...well that means black ice on the highway...so .....we're waiting one more time...geezzz...then we move on...and we're climbing a hill...tires slipping...4 wheel drive...up we go but we're seeing the big rigs aren't making it...no lie..we're headed over the hill and they're not moving...so off we go...but it's ice and we know..so we made it to Cline's Corner NM...and decided to boondock there...so to bed we went..and then in the middle of the night...it's cold ...of course it was cold when we had dinner..checked the internet and it was 10 degrees...but we ran out of propane in the night and the heater stopped working...we had tons of blankets so we were ok...but still cold in the am...really cold!  It was 13 degrees but felt like -2...yep!  We went into the little store and got coffee and then after a bit we decided let's go...it was fine..

Leaving the campground....

On I40...sucks this was our view for like 4 hours....

On the highway...pretty

This idiot motorcycle rider decided to ride on the side...well
the ice had other ideas and he wiped out..truck driver helped him..

Big rig on the side....

Not a good pic but shows the lights of trucks eastbound...
I40 sucks in my opinion...u don't realize how many trucks...

Our spot this am...see the icicle on the bar to get in the truck

Our view from our back door...that is all ice!

Another view...

Along I40 this am....beautiful

Amarillo, TX to Santa Rosa NM...not what we planned..

Amarillo, TX....got up and decided to treat ourselves to breakfast out...We headed for the Youngblood's Stockyard Cafe..it used to be near a stockyard but not anymore...We actually ate lunch there when we were here in April..lunch was good but nothing too exciting..but breakfast was another story!  Oh my!!  Ken had the chicken fried steak and eggs with hashbrowns and toast...I went for the green chile and cheese omelet, with hashbrowns and of course the biscuit and gravy....it came out and was really white (the gravy)...but it was so tasty!  Definitely gives Clarksville, a run!! yummmm!!!!...The omelet was huge, and they must have used a couple of cans of green chlles!! Ken's chicken fried stead was obviously hand battered and about a good 1/2 inch thick!!  Yes, we will definitely be back for breakfast again!!
Amarillo....Stockyard Cafe!

Left there and headed to United Market...the server at the Texan told us about their craft beer selection so we decided to pick up a few beers for the boys..

Left Amarillo around 1020 and were headed for Albuquerque NM...well the winds sucked!  Just wasn't a good driving day so at Santa Rosa NM we knew there was a state park about 7 miles off the interstate..so here we are Santa Rosa State Park...$14.00 for the night (with water and electric hookups and hot showers...only about 3 other campers and the host..

Had a really nice night, Ken bar b qued chicken breasts that were awesome!   We set the alarm early so we could hopefully make Holbrook, AZ today and make up some time from yesterday...as u all know if u read my blog consistently this is not the way we like to travel!  Because Thanksgiving is next week I was hoping to be home by this Friday..but now we'll see.

Oh and set the alarm this morning early....and what do we wake up to????  SNOW!!
Not alot, but enough to where we're gonna wait it out and then hopefully take off...
Our spot when we got there...

I know lots of chicken...Ken will have a few days of this!

And when we woke up!

I will update a few pics later as internet is slow....We did leave...that for another story!

Fort Cobb State Park Oklahoma to Amarillo, Texas

Going over the damn at Fort Cobb State Park Oklahoma
We had a really nice evening last night at the park.  After going inside the
camp host (we are assuming) came knocking on the door to collect the $18.00 fee for the park.  We would have paid it, except there was no iron ranger or any directions on how to pay..never seen a park like that before.  He was a grumpy guy, probably too cold out!  Didn't even ask Ken if he qualified for the discount..but hubby told him!  Too bad when hosts are like that, time to retire again I'm thinking!

This morning we went over to take showers...(they were pay) mine was good, but Ken's never got warm and believe me we needed warm showers as it was soooo cold..the water bottles almost froze and by the time we left it was definitely colder than when we got up!

Oklahoma State Parks are really nice, but kind of funny the difference in what they charge, discounts and the pay showers...Eufuala you had all the hot water you wanted, no pay..and it was only $12.00 compared to $18.00...

When we left the park, we were winging it as no signs for directions
but had a lovely ride and eventually found the right road..

Cordell, OK courthouse..kind of a cute little town, like Fayeteville, TN

Primitive Baptist Church...

3 Liter Growlers going home to Eric, Russell, and Jesse..

Table on the back patio of the Steakhouse..we would really like to do this
on our front porch...but not finding the info on the internet :(
We'll see where we get tomorrow!  We hoped to have more time for fun...but time's a movin on way too quickly!

Lake Eufuala OK to Fort Cobb State Park OK...

We left Clarksville, Arkansas and ended up at Lake Eufuala, Ok State Park...thought we would stay for 1 night but ended up there for 2...first night we had a late lunch at the truck stop, South Park in Clarksville, so we weren't hungry...so I cooked up some grilled cheese sandwiches to hold us over.  Yesterday, we went to Walmart, Atwoods and then through the town of Checotah, OK.  Did some antique shopping but came back with nothing!...It was soooo cold!! Spent the evening indoors other than Ken bar b qued some awesome boneless pork ribs!...the best i've ever had!...

On we went and found the road leading to the park...it's a beautiful place...Ken made a fire, it was really cold but not a lot of wind...we are right on the water!! Only the camp host and us here...other than a guy came to collect and he was not very friendly!..funny, because usually the hosts are so awesome...oh well...onward we go tomorrow!
