2 Years ago we spent our first night in our "ugly house"! I can't call it that anymore!

It's amazing how time flies!  We've been here two years ago today!  Hard to believe and when I look at the differences from when we bought our little "ugly house" to now it's unbelievable!

It's definitely been a labor of love...but love it we do!  A major reason we chose Yerington is because it's only 3 to 3 1/2 hours to the grandkids!  Easy turnaround and doable in one day.  We loved Winnemucca but just too far from those grandchildren.  Even though we haven't seen much of them in the last few months spring vacation is coming!  Then on to summer vacation!

Then.....

The first view of the house...Ken didn't even want to look at it as
it was so ugly...well kept landscaping though..

Awww...can't believe it's Tuesday already!

Sunday..Such a beautiful day here, so Ken got a case of spring fever and was outside most of the day..yard certainly looks much better!  We sat on the porch swing in the evening, because it was so nice out!  With it being the first day of daylight saving time needless to say we didn't eat till much later than we should have!

I finished up Bryan's taxes and got them ready to mail on Monday.

We decided to make homemade pizza for dinner and it was yummy!
Ken found a brand new cozy that Cheryl made out in the 5th  wheel

Our pizza! Top 2/3's Ken..oysters, olives, mushrooms and
cheese of course...Mine, bell pepper, mushroom, onion and
spinach...yummy!

Looking down the hallway at the ceiling...Love it!

Monday....Got up and headed for the big town of Yerington to mail the taxes and stopped at Scolaris for a few groceries..back home and on the internet to see about making some reservations for the June trip with Adam and Diane.  Ken worked some on the roof and the hallway..

Tuesday...Ken worked on the hallway and it looks awesome!  He got the wall panelling up, so now we'll head for Carson City tomorrow to see about picking up some trim.  I need to paint the trim and doors but I'm waiting until he's done with his part.  We still need to do the trim, tin and floor..but it's coming together nicely!  I love it!!
The old and the new

Looking into the 2nd bedroom..The trim around the door will
be white..I think I like the natural look of the border where the ceiling
meets the wall..

The new!  We need to get trim tomorrow..

Pictures just don't do it ....

I actually worked a bit outside this afternoon with the hula hoe and what I did looks much better. I admit I'm not much a yard worker in the summer time because of the lizards and who knows what else. So figure i'll help out when I can ..hahah..

Saturday at home...

Friday, March 6th...We headed for Gardnerville and a quick stop at Walmart...then onto Smith's for a little bargain shopping.  Raleys to pick up prescriptions..of course Ken's wasn't there so have to go back beginning of the week.  Oh well...

It was about 1300 when we left Raleys so we figured we're gonna live in this area a long time (or at least that's the plan)..so we decided to check out Carson Valley Inn for lunch.  I remember a long time ago when we used to do bus trips with the volunteers we went there once.  (it was pretty far removed for a regular bus trip)..so in we went and had an awesome lunch.  Ken had the big bird and I had a grilled chicken sandwich (so big I had to get rid of the bread)...great  lunch, great service and good prices.  I had a glass of chardonnay, $3.00...(later found out could have had a 1/2 carafe for $4.00) not that I needed it but good to know :)   Ken had a 23 ounce Sam Adams for $3.50..great!  We will go back there!

Got home and Ken put up a few more boards on the ceiling...looking really good!

Today, Saturday the 7th...Got up, cleaned a bit and then I sat down to work on Bryan and Cheryl's taxes..I usually do them as they're not to difficult and I follow the guy who did them a few years ago.  Only difference this year, Cheryl has some 1099 income...so it took awhile.

Ken worked on the quads. He bought a new battery for mine and got his going so it'll idle good.  Bryan and Cheryl will be here on the 22nd so we wanted to have them ready to go for them.  BLM land is just down the road so they can ride and shoot guns if they want.  When they come we're heading over the hill for a few days to watch the kids.

Adam  called earlier (twice to be exact) he called before he went to work today and after he got home.  3 hours and 45 min of work. So he's a happy camper!

Looks like Eric and family headed for San Francisco for the day (why I can't imagine)...but looks like they had fun..

A day at home getting things done!

This morning we didn't wake up til almost 0800!  Of course I don't sleep well in the middle of the night..so fall back to sleep eventually and next thing u know it's lunch (well almost).  I ran to town to pick up a few things and then back home in time for lunch.

Ken worked on the hallway ceiling and it's looking awesome!  This afternoon I spent some time on "aging" the tin out back.  Looking at the internet they suggested a bleach and vinegar solution which I've sprayed a few times..but still areas where it's still too shiny.  So another suggestion was Clorox Gel (toilet bowl cleaner) brush it on and then make a paste of Clorox gel and baking soda..So that's what I did today.  The temps are warming up so we're just gonna let it bake a few days and see what happens.  I think it's going to do the trick.

The tin with the solution on it...hope it works.

Looking down the hallway to the 2nd bedroom..Love the
look of the ceiling!

This is the ceiling..U can see where the light will go in..
just a weird angle..but did it for the view of the wood

Tomorrow we're going to go to Gardnerville, and pick up prescriptions that were called in..a stop by Walmart to see if they have a quad battery for my quad and probably a stop at Smith's grocery as they've got some stuff on sale.  So won't get as much done but hopefully something.

Fernley and our home away from home...Lowe's!

Yesterday (Tuesday) I put primer on the hallway walls, even that made it look better.  Ken glued the floor down near the bathroom.  It's cold here especially in the am (14 degrees) but 40 something later in the day.  Supposed to be getting warmer next week.
Black bean burger turned out yummy!!

The hallway before...

Before...ugly!

After the 1st coat of primer...so much better..

Today we got up and decided to head for Fernley and Lowe's.  We got the paint for the hallway and 34 more boards for the ceiling.  By the time we finished it was almost 1300 so we headed across the street for chinese lunch.

After we got home I painted the hallway as that needed to be done so Ken can get the ceiling up. Looks good and the color will go good with the paneling that we'll have on the lower part of the walls.  Can't wait to see how it turns out!
The wall color..paint is still wet..but I think it's gonna go well
with the floor and wall covering..can't wait!
Ken's 1st beer out of the Sacramento Beer Enthusiasts glass...
Thanks to our CEO Russell Kay...

Adam got his package from the NSLC today...Cheryl has to take him to get his  Ca ID as he won't have his drivers license by then.  She sent me a copy of the package and I have to say it's very impressive.  Exciting time for him!

Seth and Mason are all signed up for baseball this spring.  Busy time for them.

Russell's boys are playing basketball and enjoying.

Gardnerville and Carson City.. day is gone!

Got up this am to a very cold morning...at first we thought it was snowing, but I think it was more of an ice fog.  Ken had a dentist appointment at 0800 so he got out of here early and was backhome by 0915. So off we went to Gardnerville and that dreaded Walmart!  But it had to be done.  Got out of there about 1230 so we headed to Carson city to visit our favorite Chinese place there, the Golden Dragon.  Yummy..

After that ...Lowe's to pick up a primer for the hallway and some more roofing stuff.  By the time we got back home and unloaded..1700 hours.  So the day is done!

Cheryl sent this pic yesterday..
Bryan relaxing in the wheelbarrow
Somewhere we have the same pic
of Popo doing the same thing..
so cute!!

Sunday at home!

Woke up to a cold morning..you could see a light dusting of snow on the surrounding mountains..not here though.  Had our breakfast and then I thought about running to Gardnerville and Walmart to get some groceries as my cupboards are looking pretty bare.  We decided to go tomorrow, that way we can go to Lowe's in Carson City too.

So on with cleaning this house, and am going to try some black bean burgers for dinner (Pioneer Woman's recipe).

Ken spent the day on the roof trying to fix where the two roofs come together.

Not much going on, nice and quiet.

Grandson Adam and his first real paycheck!
$48.00...Notice the boots..they were Popo's
so guessing he had an angel with him today!

Cheryl emailed me the picture of Adam with his first "real" paycheck.  He looks pretty tired there, but he called and said he had to chop 13 milk crates of kindling wood.  Said the oak was really wet, so that would definitely make it harder to chop.  More $$ for his DC trip!
