Last Tuesday the 13th we headed out to Silver Springs with the Cargo trailer. It had our Can Am and other camping stuff in it. We caught our friends Johnny and Kelli already out there enjoying themselves. We hadn't planned on staying Tuesday night, but we went home and quickly loaded the Mansion full of stuff and headed back out there. Joel and Randi were there too.
Wednesday morning more people started showing up and by the afternoon there was a huge group. I think bigger than any we've seen before. Joel and Ross contributed and cooked tri tips for dinner and other side dishes were contributed too. YUMMY!!
Thursday was a ride for most of them to Gabbs, NV for a buffet luncheon. Their ride was six hours long and ours was 1 1/2 hours or so. Ken drove our truck, Vicki and Albert came along with us.
We did make a stop at Middlegate, NV and had a drink at the bar there. We had time to kill LOL.
A really cool little place, would hate to see it burn down with all that $$ all over the ceilings! They have great burgers too we are told! |
We arrived earlier than the crew out in the desert. R and D's Bar and Grill sits in the the tiny town of Gabbs up in the mountains. For several years now they put out an amazing buffet for Johnny's group. Meat, salads, potatoes, corn and on and on. Then strawberry shortcake with freshly whipped cream. OH mY. This year there was an added dessert to commemorate 10 years of this ride! Vicki and Albert managed to get their cake from Colfax to Silver Springs and then to Gabbs. One amazing feat! 😃
A good looking group of side x sides |

Johnny, Jenn, Lee, the cook and Kelli Awesome tri tip was the main course! |
We spent a couple of hours there and then everyone headed out. The group ride would be about 4 hours back going a different route. Our route was the same 106 miles other than no stop at Middlegate.
Friday Vicki made delicious biscuits and gravy for everyone! So good loaded with sausage! There may have been a mimosa or two consumed also!
It's called "follow the shade" YUMMY breakfast! |
About 1030 we headed out to the spot in the desert to watch the Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno races. Lucked out this year it wasn't as hot as years past.

Time to head home... |
Out of order, but part of the group heading out in the am for Gabbs |
Hot dogs, corn dogs, sides were consumed through out the day. Maybe a beer or two LOL. Great fun! Nearing dusk we headed back as we didn't want to be out after dark.
We gathered by Vicki and Albert's fifth wheel for the shade. As people came in they all joined us. Another great evening with great friends.
Saturday morning was pretty easy going. The group was going on another ride later in the morning. Ken hooked up to the cargo trailer and we said our goodbyes. Brought it home and then later in the day headed back to pick up the Mansion. Luckily Johnny's place is only about 30 minutes away.
While we were here we went into town and watched the County Fair parade. A little slow, but there were a few good contestants. Next year I'll probably pass.

Yep, that's Yerington |
We had a good evening here at home, visited with Karen and the pups who missed us.
Sunday we continued our tradition of Champagne Sunday. We decided on a cauliflower pizza and again so yummy! A slow day for me. Another visit later with the pups and Karen.
Amazing one more time! |
Now today being Monday we ran into town and visited the Yerington Family Vision Center. Made appointments for eye exam beginning of September. I've been wearing reading glasses forever but it's time to get some real ones 😱
Grandson Adam with his thumb up. Celebrating Smokey's 80th Birthday. He put on a presentation with this group at the campground. |
