Gold Beach, Oregon, boat ride, Mt Shasta City and now we're home!

Sunday morning we arrived at Jerry's Jet Boats just about 1000 and got ourselves checked in. It was a very cool morning with a breeze. All the instructions say to dress warm. As we were waiting we looked at the gift shop and I treated myself to a new jacket, perfect for the boat ride.

About 1030 they started loading the boat and right as we were about to board they stopped us and got another boat ready. We lucked out and were in the first row with the windshield. :) It took a bit, the first boat took off and a little bit later we followed. I'm sure they do this so the two boats aren't too close together and then the lines at lunch aren't as long either.

The Patterson bridge just out of Gold Beach

Our "Captain" was Kevin and honestly he made the trip just too much fun. He said he's been doing this for 27 years. The trip we were on was called the Mail Boat ride. It follows the mail route to Agness 32 miles up the river from Gold Beach. All in all a 64 mile round trip.

The beautiful Rogue River

Captain Kevin, he made the trip so fun with his personality!

Pulling up to the Lodge dock for lunch

Just a gorgeous ride all the way, leisurely until Kevin decides to put the pedal to the metal and does a quick 360 splashing water everywhere! The sun was out and it was a beautiful day. Quickly warming everyone up, the delayering started. It appeared there were a few close calls as he'd get close to tree stumps and gas it! Closer to big rocks than you could imagine and then GAS IT! A lot of screaming going on as it appeared you're going under the water..So the screams turn to laughing and clapping! One of the best things we've done over the so many years!!

It felt like the boat was going to go under! We had perfect
seats!

That's all water splashing on the windshield and over

Chicken breast sandwich and fries. The sandwich was so
big I had to discard the breading order to finish the chicken!

Outside seating at the Lodge.

A few hours later we ended up at The Lodge and were treated to a delicious lunch! You had several meals to choose from included in the price of the ride! Barbecue, burgers, salads all with sides. The only thing that was extra was alcohol and still not bad prices there either! Ken had 2 IPA's and I had 2 glasses of delicious wine.

Close to an hour later we were back on the boat for the journey home. We had so much fun I told Ken next year we have to come back and do the White water trip! Honestly, I think I was more nervous getting on that horse than being on the boat LOL.

We headed back to our hotel room after stopping at the grocery store quickly!

Well, we decided to head for home Monday morning. We want to leave for Arkansas on or about the 1st and there's lots to be done. So this will end this years anniversary trip, but what a trip it was!

Monday we left Gold Beach and had a late breakfast, which turned out to be lunch in Crescent City, CA. The Apple Peddler has the best burgers and fries hands down. Time to get back on the wagon or i'll look like a blimp!

We're waking up in Mt. Shasta City, CA. at Monte Bianco Inn. A really nice remodeled room, high end amenities for a low end price (for Mt Shasta anyway).  Interesting check in. I filled out our registration slip online, then they sent our room # and a lock box code. Parked, walked across to where lock boxes were and got our key. Never saw a person at the office. Easy peasy. There was a number to call if we had a problem. They had full size coffee maker with coffee and glass cups. Very homey feel.

The bed was so tall I almost needed a step stool! So comfy
and that comforter weighed a ton, wish it was cold enough
to use it!

Beautiful Mt Shasta!

We left about 0700 this morning and had a beautiful drive on Highway 89. We turned off right before Lassen National Park, which we've been to over the years. Picked up a prescription in Gardnerville, lunch about 1300 at Sharkeys and now we're home for a few days!

Going across Britton Lake

Love going, but it's nice to have a home to come to when we're done. It's in the mid 80's with beautiful blue skies. We are so blessed to be able to live this life! We're not rich ($$) but rich in so many ways! Life is awesome! Happy Hour, have a great evening! πŸΊπŸ·πŸ’—

Beautiful drive up the coast into Oregon, Horseback riding, Visiting with friends, Sunday in Gold Beach Oregon (Thank you Eric and Chris)

oc Thursday, September 19th we got ourselves up and had a small breakfast in our room.

Then it was off to Ricochet Ridge Ranch just a few miles from our motel. We got there about 1020 and met Russ, our cowboy for the ride. He's a recent transplant from Montana. He and his wife wanted the ocean and this job!

Russ, our cowboy. He's taken though
Nancy!

He introduced us to our horses and gave a quick lesson on riding. So much info in so little time! I was a little hesitant at first, but quickly figured the horses knew what they were doing, then I relaxed. Ken was a natural from the start!

We headed out, crossed highway 1 and then towards MacKerricher State Park. We rode through beautiful trees and scenery and then were greeted with  a beautiful ocean with lots of waves. We rode a little there and then headed back the way we came. It was so worth it and we both enjoyed. Russ is a great leader and kept us entertained with some stories.

This ride was courtesy of John and Karen! They gave us some anniversary money about 4 years ago, but we only spend it on special things and this was it! Later in the day they bought us dinner too! πŸ’—

Once we were done there, we stopped by our room, picked up some beer and wine and headed over to Pomo RV Park and Campground to hook up with a few friends that were camped there. Small world right?!

Vicki and I, along with others  opened the Sheriff's Service Center in November of 1993. Been friends ever since. πŸ’– Actually, she's very special to me, so I was really happy to spend a few hours with her and meet some of her friends, along with her other half, Dick. It's probably been 8 years or so since we've seen her. Happy Birthday Vicki!!

Keri was there also along with Jerry. Keri and I used to work, Safe Night Sacramento together back in those years. Keri I haven't seen since before retiring in 2010 other than on FB. Glad we got some time with her and the other friends that were camping too! Unfortunately, too busy visiting I didn't get one picture! I think Keri got a couple so I'll have to see if I can get any.

Stopped on the way back at a place called Angelina's for an early dinner that was delicious. It was so good we decided to have breakfast there on Friday before leaving in the morning.

Breakfast was even better than dinner.

We headed up the highway with Brookings, Oregon as our destination. It was about 1630 when we arrived at our motel. Just in time for Happy Hour. 🍺🍷 We ate in our room as we had leftovers LOL.

The beautiful Redwood Highway, Avenue of the Giants

Yesterday (Saturday) we headed further north about 30 miles to Gold Beach, Oregon. Yes, a long day haha. The drive was incredible, as Oregon has many pullouts along the way and the ocean is absolutely beautiful. Definitely not as much traffic as California.

Did a little sightseeing, but really not much to do here. We decided to drive another 30 miles to Port Orchard, Oregon. Another beautiful drive!

There we got out and headed to the beach for a bit. Love the rocks there. Port Orchard is special as in 1991 we spent a night there, just before I started with the Sheriff's Department. When I got the job I was working for the school district as a teacher's aide and took a leave of absence. We decided on a mini vacation as we weren't sure when we'd get to go again. Port Orchard was the spot that always stands out to me.

A beautiful dwelling on the beach LOL.

Eventually we headed back to Gold Beach and to a Mexican Restaurant that had great reviews. It certainly should!  Tortuga Mexican Bar and Grill was incredible. It's at the beginning of Turtle Rock RV Park, where we stayed many years ago.

Jorge took great care of us.

Chimichunga was HUGE and delicious! Yes, there were
leftovers!

Ken's enchiladas were huge too!

We headed for our room at Azalea Lodge in Gold Beach it was about 1545 when we arrived to no one in the office. Call a number. She was in Brookings and wouldn't be back for 30 minutes or so. Why when you make the reservation do they ask you what time you're expected. 1500 I put on the reservation. We pulled out our lawn chairs and waited in the sun. She comes in, no apology or anything. Gave us our key and off we went. First key didn't work, so she came and gave us another.

The room is beautiful though, very recently remodeled and everything brand new. We are here tonight too.

Sunday morning we're getting ourselves going. We have scheduled a Jet Boat Ride up the Rogue River. Something we've never done before but are looking forward to it! Lunch is included at a lodge up river also!

Eric and Christina gave us money 2 years ago for our 50th. Wanted to spend it on something special so, THANK YOU Eric and Christina!

Well, time to get going.  A light breakfast in our room and off to the boat! Enjoy your Sunday, I know we will! πŸ’™

If it's bologna sandwiches, it's our anniversary. A few days on the coast of CA and headed North.

Monday September 16th we left home around 0700 to head to the CA coast. It was our 52nd wedding anniversary and we were headed to a tiny house at Dillon Beach for 2 nights.

We arrived around noon, checked in at the store and got our pass for the beach. It was an absolutely beautiful day! The best you can ask for at the beach! Beautiful blue skies, no wind and temps in the mid 60's!

Got our lawn chairs out, took lunch down to the sand and enjoyed the afternoon. Somewhere around 1330 I made us some bologna sandwiches and believe me they were awesome! Wine, beer and barbecued chips completed the lunch! 🍷🍺 About 1530 we left and checked into our cute little house.

Happy Anniversary! Bologna sandwiches never taste
so good as on September 16th! πŸ’™

I had made chicken at home, bought potato salad for Ken and salad for me for our dinner for a couple of nights. Perfect.

Tuesday morning took our time getting ready and had a nice homemade breakfast. Then we  headed back to the beach for the day. A little cooler but still very nice. Once the wind picked up headed back up to the tiny house. It had a nice little porch so we sat out there and enjoyed our adult beverages. πŸ˜ƒ

Thank you Chloe for telling me about these tiny homes!
It was perfect! The bed and bedding were incredible!

Just perfect!

Finally using my glass I bought probably 3 or 4 years ago

Waves were perfect, lots of surfers out there.

This morning we again took our time and left about 1040 to head not quite 160 miles to Fort Bragg, CA. Haven't been in years. It's a beautiful drive but lots of road work going on which is a good thing. We stopped at Point Arena Lighthouse to have our linner. The last of the bologna sandwiches for another year. πŸ˜₯ We were hoping to sit at a picnic table, but it was cold and windy so we opted for our white trash lunch in the car LOL!!

Point Arena lighthouse. They have a tour that goes up.
All spiral staircase, don't think that's for me
anymore.

Our view for lunch.

We arrived here about 1630 and got checked in to the motel. A Days Inn, very nice and even a kitchenette, but we don't have anything to cook. Oh well.

We were hoping to ride the rail bikes tomorrow, but they're booked. So instead looks like we're going horseback riding on the beach for an hour or so. An adventure for us. πŸ˜€ We'll leave here Friday morning and head north. Not sure where we'll end up, just know we're going up the coast for a bit  πŸ˜Š

Have a great evening! πŸΊπŸ·πŸ’–

A quick catch up! Fun at the beach, Diane and Jesse visit, Eye appointments

Thursday August 22nd I left home and headed for Dixon, CA for the night. Friday morning I visited my mom and dad at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery where they are buried. I wanted to stop by our nephew Michael's grave but they had the road closed in his area. It's a beautiful resting place for our heroes and gets me every time I visit.

From there I headed to Petaluma, Ca to meet up with my sister Linda and family. Nephew Jesse was there too. We had an awesome lunch at Laguinitas Brewery.

From there we headed to Dillon's Beach where we would spend the weekend in the house Linda rented.

Jesse, Owen (with his  "wine") and Bobby

The view from the front porch

Jesse, Bobby, Dusty and Owen

We went out to lunch and the place was packed, but some
seats opened up so no white trash lunch that day!

Dusty barbecued some amazing steaks and burgers!

Miss Cassidy

Cassidy before we went to bed πŸ’œ

Owen had to have his picture taken with this
Lambourgini he spotted! πŸ’™

Cassidy and her blocks she built, before she knocked them down!

Bottom line there was good food, good drinks and great company! Before you knew it, time to head home on Monday. Thanks Linda for such a wonderful time every year!! πŸ’—πŸ’—

Fast forward to the next weekend and on Saturday Diane and Jesse came to spend the holiday weekend with us. We enjoyed having them for sure!

Jesse, Diane and Ken

Champagne Sunday Jesse joined us! Pizza turned out
yummy too!

                                                           Adam and Erin vacation

Today Ken and I had eye appointments in town. I haven't been in probably 20 years or more. Cheap readers have worked for years, but not so much anymore. Looking forward to glasses NOT. Pressure was up on both eyes, so i'll get checked again before we leave for Arkansas beginning of October. Small cataracts too, probably 5 years before anything needs to be done. Glasses should be in 2 to 3 weeks.

Ken had his checked too and ordered 2 pairs of bifocals. Sunglasses and regular. He has his regular ophthalmologist so he didn't need pressure etc checked. We're both glad Yerington Family Vision Center was recommended to us. Very professional and friendly place!

That's it for now as it's Happy Hour! Enjoy!
