Leaving Don and Dana's :( Pickwick Landing TVA..Buford Pussers House from the outside..

Saturday night we had a great dinner once again made by Dana.  It was a mushroom, chicken, asparagus and stuffing dinner. It was so good! She's got some awesome Amish cookbooks and everything turns out incredible! We ended our evening late once again, but a great time and chat!

Sunday morning we got up and did our regular morning routine. Dana was working hard with the cows and it took her quite a while to come inside. A lot of work involved with these cattle! We chit chatted quite awhile and then showers etc. It was a cool, windy morning. I eventually headed outside with the camera to take a few pictures of their homestead.

Don and Dana's beautiful home...

The chicken coops..poor chickens ;)...haha

It was a misty morning..

Side view of the house..cute little porch on the side..

Junior's area along with an area for cows to be worked through

Don's huge garage!

(Queen) Heidi..that's what I call her..she's definitely in control :)

Sweet Pea..:)

We all met up in the living room area of the house and watched the movie "Final Countdown"..really good movie.  Upon talking with Don, we realized we (Ken and I) have not been to a movie since 2012, when we went to see "Hope Springs" with Merle Streep (who we would never see now) and Tommy Lee Jones. We were actually here in TN when we went to see that one.

About 1245 we all got ready and headed to town to have a Mexican lunch at      a place we've been before with Don and Dana. They've moved, but we were able to find them.  A great lunch was had by all gotta say.  We came home and then watched the original "Stepford Wives".  I know we saw it probably 40 years ago, but a great movie!

We told Dana not to cook as we had a good lunch and Ken was going to have leftovers, but she did anyway.  She made a beef stroganoff from her Amish Cookbook and it was delicious.  I wasn't hungry but had to give it a bite. Yum.

We had a few glasses of wine and hit the sack at about 2330.

About 0630 today (Monday the 26th) I woke Ken up and we headed downstairs.  Had some good coffee and good conversation and eventually at 1200 we gave hugs and said good bye to Don, Dana, (Queen) Heidi and Sweet Pea. Dana loaded up with some of her jams, zucchini bread and a loaf of homemade bread! YUM!

What a wonderful visit we had with them. Thanks guys for the hospitality and everything! We'll be back next year, God willing! We love visiting them, as their place is so warm and welcoming. We are so comfortable. I told Dana the other day, after we left Clif's area, that we felt like we were coming home..:)
Don, Heidi and Sweet Pea..yes it was cold this am!

We're ready to go :(

Don holding Heidi, (she's not very mobile anymore and she loves
her daddy..and vice versa)..Dana and Sweet Pea..

Junior watching us go !
Ken pulled the trailer up in front of the house..

Saying good bye to Heidi..

Off we go...:(  Thanks guys for EVERYTHING!

We headed out towards Pulaski and then we picked up highway 64 towards Adamsville.  We followed signs toward Pickwick Dam (TVA) we lost highway 128 and then finally turned on GIP to guide us. Roadwork and the 128 sign was missing.  Long story short, we found this beautiful park.
Toni, checked us in afer we found space 11.  Very nice camp hosts! We are at Pickwick Dam TVA Park.. (Different than Pickwick Landing State Park. State Park Campsites are closed until the end of March for bathroom renovations)..This park is $25.00 a night for water, electricity and a dump station.  If you have the America the Beautiful Senior Pass it is $18.00 a night. 92 beautiful sites.  Our site #11 is huge and green, with many pine trees! We are happy campers!

Along highway 128

Our site..notice the greenway!?

After Ken finished his stuff, we headed towards Bufford Pussers house in Adamsville.  By the time we got there at 1615 it was closed. Took some pictures and off we went. Oh well, just fyi..$10.00 per person, $8.00 for senior.  Really, to see a house..seems they could make it cheaper. We won't travel back as we're headed for Shiloh National Battlefield tomorrow. Glad we did what we did.
Buford's house

At least the gold one is his..

His sign

his  home..

Buford's home!

We headed back to camp and here we are after leftovers of enchiladas I froze from before we got to Don and Dana's.  Time for bed, as we want to be at the battlefield early.
TN River!

A park by the power plant..too bad the graffiti destroyed the plaque
explaining what this was..

Power plant under the highway..

Huge!

The view of the bridge from outside the campground..

Sure is a quiet night and I found myself still up at 2330, not ready to go to bed. Missing my conversation with a very special person! Don and Dana, love you guys!

For the first time in a over a month we're headed west..home is in the not too distant future and we'll be planning other trips as it's hard to believe that summer will be here before you know it.  We'll look forward to getting home and then seeing some grandchildren we've been missing (oh yeah their parents too)..on to another beautiful day!

Have a great one!

  1. Don and Dana sure are great people. Seems that Dana is a hard worker. Feeding the cows and then cooking for everyone.

They have a beautiful piece of property and a very nice farm house.

Can't believe they charge that much to see Buford's house. Looks to me like a regular run of the mill Tennessee residential home.

    Enjoy the battlefield today.

  2. Dana definitely has her morning routine and then the cooking. i'd offer to help, but she wouldn't let me (I'm kinda that way too at my house). I call her the energizer bunny..she keeps going. They have 70 acres and are working their way into the cattle business taking classes and learning from their neighbors. They are a great couple. Going from city people in CA to Country in TN, they've adjusted well and the life fits them! Looking forward to the battlefield, we've heard so much about it!

  3. What a fun visit and nice place Don and Dana have. Suzie was raised on a dairy farm and it has now been in the family for 100 years, lots of work 24-7 but a very rewarding life.

    1. That's cool about Suzie, but yeah I bet that's tons of work! Bet she's glad to be doing what she does with you!

  4. Nice to read about your visit with such a lovely couple. Dana is certainly a go-er. (goer?) :)
Their house reminds me of one I lived in, old, tall and stately with lovely woodwork.
I like the picture of you guys in front of the barn. Next time I am able to get a picture of you two, I'm going to get you laughing! Everyone is so serious. The battlefield should be interesting for sure. Is that huge thing a propeller of some kind?

    1. I hate having my picture taken, so I"m always like, lets get this over with..Dana said exactly the same thing. It's a beautiful home they have, been remodeled on the inside before they bought it. Yes it's a water powered turbine for the power plant. Just too bad, there's no respect. The turbine had graffiti on it and the plaque explaining what it was also was covered, so you couldn't read it ..Got the info from my oh so smart hubby:)

  5. Thanks for visiting with Dana and I. We both really enjoyed your company and hanging out.

Enjoy your westward travels. Keep an eye on the sky,the spring severe weather is here, and I saw it's snowing in parts of Colorado,New Mexico and Arizona today.

  6. What a beautiful place to be able to spend your time. Dana sure sounds like someone who does not sit a lot.
Safe travels as you head back west...was strange to write that as most everyone else heading "home" is pointed east...:)

    1. It was wonderful and we always look forward to going back! I'm thinking they both get to sit a bit more in the winter than in the spring. Don had to mow already, and in the spring and summer it's a few times a week the grass grows so quickly. They seem to enjoy it all though:)

  8. Looks like you've had a fantastic time on this trip. Thanks for taking me along. I truly enjoyed the scenic routes and seeing the sights.

So glad you enjoyed your time with all your friends in the area. It sounds like Dana is an excellent cook.

Thanks for the information on Bufford Pusser's museum. I was thinking of heading out to have a look but that does seem a bit high for a house tour. I've been seeing signs for the Walking Tall trail around the area and since I enjoyed the movie I thought I'd maybe look into it a bit further. Now I don't need to do that.

    Safe travels!!!

  9. Aww.thank you Deb! That's why we went by the house because we liked the movie. How long can it take to go through a house? That's why we didn't go back, just too much when there's so many things and museums you can see for a lot less!
