Catch up..not much service to blog..:(

Well, we've spent the last two nights at Cathedral Gorge State Park outside Caliente, NV.  We love this park but unfortunately internet service is really slow. I could barely respond to our friends posts. Knew there was no way to get a blog out.

I'm going to catch myself up (so this old brain doesn't forget) and then post it this afternoon wherever we end up.

We left Ely, NV after having breakfast at Margaritas where we had dinner the night before.  They have a nice little senior breakfast menu so we both had a ham and cheese omelet, Margarita potatoes (hash browns with cheese, bell pepper and onion) and a piece of toast.  (We don't mind the one slice of bread, as that's all we would normally eat at a restaurant.) Yummy breakfast for $5.25.

We headed out for about 7 miles and made a left towards Cave Lake State Park. We spent a few days there last summer with the grandkids and wanted to see how it looks in the winter. Beautiful. The lake normally freezes solid and they hold an ice sculpture event there. I saw that it was cancelled this year due to lack of freezing. They're making up for it now.haha..Took a few pictures and off we went.

The boys were swimming from here last summer

Fishing dock..there were footprints out on the lake ..not me..

We left there and headed out for about a 130 mile drive.  Found our favorite spot was open so in we went.  Nothing too exciting as it was pretty windy and chilly.  We enjoyed the afternoon and looking at the beauty that surrounded us.

No traffic..highway 93..

Ranger gave Ken 4 home brewed beers..He loved this one.
A brown ale..

We had leftovers for dinner and then watched the movie, MUD.  WE've seen it a few times but to me it's like Overboard, I can watch it over and over.  It stars Matthew McConaughey and it's filmed in Arkansas (could be another reason I like it)..great acting and just a good story. Then bedtime.

Yesterday morning we got up and had our drinks and checking in with blogging friends.  There was no wind and it was cool, but not bad. Decided after breakfast to take the trail to Miller's Point Overlook.  It's a mile in and a mile back. Ok ready.  It's a beautiful trail and before you know it there's a metal staircase going up, ok..then I look over and there's more upwards and that's where I stop.  My body does not like being on the edge of anything and that's what it looked like. I told Ken to go ahead and he did.  There's lots of steps going up to Miller Point. When he came back he said I wouldn't have liked it so he was glad I didn't attempt it.  Coming down the metal staircase he said you could see where there was a lot of washout from rains.

WARNING: PICTURE OVERLOAD! AND I MEAN IT !!

Always reminds me of a mini Bryce Canyon with the

We're on the trail to Miller Point Overlook..

As far as I could go..

Ken went on and up to the overlook..

Those wooden steps down low stopped me..too much over the
edge for me..

There he is at the overlook..

This is such a beautiful park..

OK we're doing the Juniper Loop trail..4 miles.

Love the line here..

On the Miller Point Trail we didn't see any of these..until we
turned towards the campground we didn't see them either..
strange the way Mother Nature works..

He met up with me and we continued on.  We got to the end of the trail and there's a sign for  Juniper Loop Trail.. 4 miles. Ok let's start and see what happens. It was a beautiful trail running along the hills and hoodoos and it didn't seem like a four mile walk.  The wind came up a bit but it was nice.  Got back to the trailer about 1230.  I got out the salad makings and we had lunch.

Got some special anniversaries coming up this week and next and I wanted to get some cards and get them in the mail.  We drove the 15 miles to Caliente and found a  Family Dollar, so was able to get them and get them mailed. Caliente is a cute little town with a small grocery, variety store, couple of restaurants etc.

We headed back to the trailer and Ken got some firewood out and we enjoyed sitting by the fire, just watching the hills change. Ken bar b q ed some chicken and I did some broccoli, squash, mashed potatoes and gravy.  It was a delicious end to the day!

Today, Wednesday we're heading out. Not quite sure where yet.

Winnemucca, NV to Ely, NV..

Saturday  Ken ran over to Ranger's place and visited for awhile.  I enjoyed being in the trailer watching the snow fall.  Hallmark movie was on and I'm a happy camper.

He got home near 1330 so we had a quick lunch of hot dogs and some gluten free macaroni salad I made a couple of days ago.  Turned out very good.  After lunch we ran to town to pick up a few things at Ridley's.  This store also has an Ace Hardware attached to it, so he picked up a pair of channel locks as he forgot his at home.  He was hoping for a cheap pair, but they didn't carry any. Oh well, he needs them. Got some gas and headed home.

We watched our neighbor set up in the "blizzard" wind and snow
blowing sideways..poor guy

He finally called it, and went inside..

We both enjoyed the afternoon watching it snow and the winds blow.  Not too much snow on the ground only an inch or so but it is pretty.

We met Joe at 1800 at the Wingers that is next to the park.  There weren't many people in there, but service was slow. Ken was talking with Joe and didn't look at his menu, so he told the waitress 2 minutes.  Well, we finally had to ask the bartender if she could let our waitress know we were ready to order. This was close to 15 minutes later.  Where she went I don't know.  We ordered and we waited and waited.  Mind you, there was only 2 other tables with people there. Eventually the food came out and it was good. There was no checking to make sure the food was good, or did we need anything. We won't be going back anymore. It was convenient because it's next door, but pricey too. There's plenty of restaurants in town for sure.
Our sunset last night..

Back to the trailer, a glass of wine for me, a beer for Ken and then it's bedtime.  It was not a good night for me. Up at 0100 for a long time. That happens sometimes. We sat the alarm for 0500 but both of us were awake before that so Ken started the coffee.

Pretty much a rude awakening. Drain hose frozen. Ken had left the valves open on the tanks but the water must have slowly built up so frozen! No shower in the trailer for us so once we got done with coffee, blogging etc we headed over to the bathrooms.  The are lovely, but it was so cold walking over there brrrr..about 15 degrees at 0800.
The sinks and theirs another set of them on the other end..

Looking into the shower stall..they are huge..there's at least
four showers plus a handicapped..

After that I made us some breakfast and Ken fiddled with the outside hoses . We left and drove to town to get some heat strips so he could fangle something up and  get the hoses shut down. About noon he was finally able to get it done and said "We're outta here!".

All around nothing but snow..

Looking at Winnemucca Mountain..

Our little trailer out in the cold..

The mountains this morning

We  were headed for Ely, NV for the night. A 284 mile drive.  At Battle Mountain we pulled over and made a quick lunch a little after 1300.

It was a beautiful drive, all of Nevada it seems is a winter wonderland of white! The mountains look so different covered in snow than in the summer driving through.

Eureka, NV

About 1830 we pulled into the Prospector Hotel RV Park.  We pulled in and Ken was setting up to find that the water was shut down in the park which was what we needed most.  We walked up to the hotel desk, thinking maybe they had a discount because the water was shut down. Nope.  We headed to the Loves Travel Stop and filled a five gallon bucket with water so we could put it in the bathtub, to have water for flushing the toilet.  Ok, let's boondocks on the hotel property...they don't mind at all.  Well, since we saved $22.70 Ken decided we should have a good (great) Mexican dinner inside the hotel. YUM.  Margaritas is a wonderful Mexican place, with great service, good prices and wonderful food. Ken had a chicken burrito with rice and beans and I ordered their veggie fajitas! Oh so good.  Came back to our little trailer had a glass of wine and a beer and that was it, with our full tummies it was bedtime.

I slept really good, woke up at 0430, rolled over and both of us were up at 0530. Coffee, computing and now we'll get ready and head back to Margaritas for their awesome breakfast.  I know, we're really treating ourselves but this place is really good and we're only here once a year or so. Just checked, 21 degrees feels like 7..ok, we're ready for some warmer weather.

Our goal today is 134 miles to Cathedral Gorge State Park in Caliente, NV. It's 17 feels like 9..oh oh..but the high is 47..so that's warmer than the 36 expected here.  Yay?!

Have a wonderful day!
