Elephant Butte Lake State Park..La Concina Restaurant for lunch..

As we were getting ready to leave yesterday morning, we saw this travel trailer with tons of bicycles outside it. Honestly we thought it was Scott and Laurel from Living Large in the North.  We didn't look at their blog to confirm their vehicles but about 1000 we walked to their site and knocked on the door. Nope not them..a nice young lady, Cindy answered the door and we visited for a bit with her. They are a family with 6 kids traveling for a few months before their oldest graduates from high school and moves on with life. Their kids range from 3 to 18.  She follows blogs of families with a lot of kids and was pretty sure she follows them.  So even though it wasn't Scott and Laurel it was very nice to meet this mom. We haven't met Scott and Laurel, but hopefully one day!
Steve, Cindy and six kids!

One of the only live businesses in Bowie..

I bet this one has stories to tell..

Dwayne told us all the nuts were local..so I'm guessing some
came from here.

We left Mountain View RV Park in Bowie, AZ yesterday morning. Took a drive through the sad little town before hitting the freeway.  Not much there except a liquor store and grill.  You could see lots of buildings that have gone by the wayside probably when they put the freeway in.

Jumped on the freeway and had an enjoyable drive. I 10 was not too crowded at all. We were very pleasantly surprised! We drove through the cute little town of Hatch and drove on.  We arrived in Truth or Consequences around 1400, stopped to get ice and we munched on some cheese and crackers as neither of us was very hungry.
This was probably a Stuckey's at one time..

New Mexico!

Hatch, New Mexico

A nice open highway..just the way we like it!

Truth or Consequences..
We found the park and eventually found a site, actually Bill and Patsy's site that they had vacated earlier in the day!
We visited a bit with our neighbor, Martin who said he noticed Bill and Patsy were there one minute, and gone the next!  Very nice young man, camping a few days with his mother.
Elephant Butte Lake State Park (EBLSP)

Our site..

Ken bar b qued some  chicken thighs for him and a veggie burger for me.  Martin invited us over for a fire, but we were cooking and knew after we ate about 1930 we'd be too tired to make it over. Had a great dinner, a little tv and called it a night.
Our dinner..Veggie Burger along with Broccoli, Asparagus and
some great norther beans..Ken's with Chicken thighs..

Our sunset..

A great ending to a great day!

Looking at our site and the view... Thanks Bill and Patsy
we love this site!

I didn't wake up until 0620 this morning. Daylight and the sun was shining. A nice 47 degrees.  We just took our time catching up with friends and their blogs. We had yogurt and fruit for breakfast as both of us were thinking the same thing. How about a nice Mexican lunch?! We headed out to find the Walmart and we did.  Divide and conquer and we were out of there pretty quickly.  Unloaded our stuff at home and then back in the truck to La Cocina Mexican Restaurant.
Good morning New Mexico!

Not a lot of people were there, so that was nice. Great service and wonderful food.  Honestly for the first time ever Ken had to bring a box home! He might get stuffed, but has NEVER brought a box back home! If you're ever in the area we definitely recommend this place. Spicy homemade salsa too!
I love this at the entrance station..looks like they took a small
silo and made an office..

Ken's chicken burrito..measured 4 inches x 12 inches..along with
the salad!! No wonder he had to bring some home!
( Lordy Be... Patsy)

Mine..a chimichanga..different but delicious! YUM ...

Stuffed to the gills we headed back to camp. We actually drove down to the beach for a bit and just enjoyed the temperatures and the looking at the water and the mountains.

The Marina

People parked on the beach..

Campers on the beach..

We got back to camp and Martin and his mom were outside, so we both went next door and visited a bit. I sat in the sun a bit soaking up some vitamin D. A little later Ken went to Martin's and they enjoyed a couple of hours of chit chat. I actually enjoyed my kindle and the book I'm hooked on right now. Ken came back and now to catch up on news..so a good time to blog.

Martin told Ken this is the start of Spring Break here so it'll get more crowded wherever we go. Oh well..Tomorrow is move on day so we'll see what happens. Our goal is Sumner Lake State Park.

Our new flag and flagpole!

Beautiful lake..

A beautiful day we had..nice and relaxing..on to a new site tomorrow..have a wonderful night! Travel safe!

  1. Too bad about Bowie. Interstates did a lot of small towns in.

You two re beginning to move fast now that you found your way out of Nevada. I think it was Nevada but I'm not good on remembering things.

Beautiful pictures. Really liked the sunrise in New Mexico.

    Travel safe tomorrow.

    1. We've got to be back to get taxes and start watering in mid April. At the rate we've been going, we won't have any time to spend in TN haha..Yes it was NV. Clouds certainly help w sunrises and sunsets don't they?

  2. Great sunset and sunrise pictures. We drove through the town while we stayed there, also. It is sad but we did find a place to taste wine and make a purchase...:) If I remember correctly it was the Ft. Bowie Winery.
We have taken that route through Hatch a couple of times and would agree it is a nice ride. What luck to get there in time to snag the same site as Patsy and Bill just to bad you missed each other.
    Enjoy and continued safe travels.

  4. They are really sweet. He had to leave to go to work for a few days so his son (13) and son's mom are there now. WE have, hate to leave it now as boats are coming in, should be a good time on the lake this weekend!

  6. Thanks George, it is a beautiful park and it's amazing that's it's filled but oh so quiet. I guess in the summer it's louder with the young people and all but this is nice too.

  9. I had forgotten about Stuckeys! I remember them being everywhere when my family drove to Disneyland. I was ten years old at the time and my sister and I really wanted to stop at one and find out what they were all about.
