3 day catchup...We made it to Cornersville! Definite Picture Overload!!

Wednesday after coffee and checking in with friends we got ourselves ready to go. We ended up with a 1030 breakfast, but that's ok it should hold us most of the day. I made some breakfast burritos for us and they were good!
Good morning from Mamuelle COE in Little Rock, Arkansas

Our neighbors Gil and Kathleen, had the best site in the park!

Ken had talked with one of the neighbors from Memphis last night so we went over to say goodbye.  Well, 1/2 hour later  and we finally said good bye.  Great people! They full timed for 9 years and now they're going when they can. We exchanged cards, they don't do a blog but great people!

We finally got out of the park about 1130 and had the girl in the phone (GIP) guide us to where we needed to go. We wanted to hit highway 64 for the trip across Arkansas.  Anything to stay off I 40. We did it last year leaving the KOA in W Memphis headed home.
Little Rock traffic at 0940!

Little Rock, Arkansas skyline.

So much water everywhere..the rivers are overflowing!

Over this way a lot of the new silos..not my fave

GIP sent us 430 N to 167 then to 64 E.. Nice drive even 167 wasn't bad. We followed 64 E for close to 100 miles and and she guided us to the KOA.  We were here about a year ago and she gave us a $10.00 discount so we're paying $25.00 for a water/electric site. We did our laundry and I'm making enchiladas and coleslaw for dinner. A nice ending to the day..and we're both excited to spend some time with Don and Dana in Cornersville!
Ready for crops..

Love the barns, towns and silos along Hwy 64..

White River Relief..lots of water

Earle, Arkansas

Thursday morning we wanted to miss the commuter traffic through Memphis. We had about a 220 mile drive most of it on Highway 64. We left the campground about 0900 and had a beautiful drive through Memphis and we followed the signs until Highway 64 East.  Yes! A lovely drive on that highway. Most of it is 4 lanes. Some two lanes but very little traffic.  You go through several little towns  along the way, and beautiful scenery to keep you occupied.

Heading into Memphis..the Mississippi River had more water
than we've ever seen!! Amazing!

The banks have overflowed!

Back in the land of Piggly Wiggly..gotta love that name!

TN RIVER

More water than ever!

We pulled over in Adamsville at the local Lowe's parking lot and we had a quick lunch.  Then on towards Cornersville.  We drove into Don's driveway about 1600.  Dana came out to greet us, she had been gathering eggs. Don came out and we walked over to the area of the new cow pen and met Junior the bottle fed calf they've been raising.  They are really settling in to the farm life here in TN.
Heading to the Bar-K-Farm..

House that's being built near Don's..

We're here!! :)

Our view..

The sun is setting..

The chickens have it tough here..

We eventually went inside and continued the visit some more.  Ken and Don figured where to park the trailer and Dana and I visited more.  After the doggies were fed, Dana made a terrific dinner that included chicken, bacon, mushrooms, sauce and noodles ( I know there's a name for it, but can't think of it).  Side of broccoli and it was so tasty! She is quite the cook. :)   Dana and I visited until about midnight and called it a night.

Friday (16th) We awoke close to 0700 after a wonderful night's sleep.  We met up downstairs and had our coffee, computing and eventually breakfast. More visiting and just enjoying!  About 1030 we all loaded into Don's truck for a ride through the country and out to Fayetteville.  Ken brought the trailer tire to get a new rim.  We left it there as the person who puts the tire on the new rim wasn't in.  According to Dana "Well, it's a nice day for fishing".  Apparently pretty common in the area..hahah.  We'll pick it up next week sometime.  Don stopped at O'Rileys so we could get a new battery box cover. Ken apparently left one of ours in Littlefield, TX.  He took it off to run the compressor and forgot to put it back on. After that we headed back towards home and decided about 1500 we'd all meet up and head out to OldDelina's Country Store and Restaurant for a linner (lunch/dinner).

On the way to Fayetteville, TN

We all enjoyed, Don had the catfish special, Ken and Dana had their 1/2 pound burger and fries and I enjoyed their grilled chicken sandwich w fries.  We all pleasantly stuffed when we were done. Along with their excellent iced tea (sweet or unsweet) and their excellent service.  Jacquelyn remembered us and we said we'd see her again next year. This little place is really special and a must see when you're in the area!
Old Delina's Country Store and Restaurant

Love the decor of this little place..

All kinds of vehicles used to get to Delina's..

Love this saying..

Dana, Don and the Flag painted on the side of Delina's..

The little church next door to Old Delina's

Back home and then just a relaxing evening.  I downloaded some pictures and eventually met Ken out on the back deck for happy hour and just enjoyed the beautiful scenery and quietness :))

Once it got chilly we came back inside and joined Don and Dana again. I thought it would be an earlier night and it was only 2300 when I came to bed. Ken had gone earlier.  Dana and I get started talking and the conversation just flows!

I woke up around 0330 to some thunder and lightning outside, so just enjoyed the sound and lights.  Ken woke up about 0500 so I thought this is a good time to work on the blog, before I forget again.

It's a cloudy but beautiful morning here in Cornersville, TN! It took us 21 days to get here, (a new record for us)..but we're oh so happy to be here!  Have a wonderful day!!

  2. I love HWY 64 in Tennessee. We stayed at Big Buck Resort in Hornsby off of Hwy 64 last fall will be staying there again on the way home. It's just a bit east of Memphis.

I have to say it doesn't seem like 21 days since you left home. Hahaha..

    Enjoy your visit with friends.

  3. Glad you made it to Cornersville, Tennessee. Loved the verandas on the homes. One of the nice things about the south.

Lots of great pictures of what makes the south unique. Small towns along the roadway. Delina's is a nice homey southern place. Your friends have moved to a great little town.

Wish I would drive more on the highways. May try it on the way home.

  5. First thank you for the windmill picture on the 13th; there is just something about the windmills I love seeing them.

What a great view at the COE in Little Rock.

I have really enjoyed looking at all your pictures of the small towns along the route you two took. That Bass Pro Shop in Memphis is something. We could see it from a distance and wondered what is the pyramid all about then you see the sign on the building. I have read there is even a hotel in there.

Glad to read you made it to Dana and Don's safe and sound. Great saying on the side of the Delina's.

    Enjoy your time visiting.
