Another week gone by, Rockslide at Wilson Canyon, Snow, wind, rain and cold.

Well, it's been another week that has flown by! We've been home mostly other than a trip to Raley's in town. I was going to try and get over the hill on Saturday to my niece's baby shower, but the weather took care of that one.

Daughter in law Christina actually let me "be there". She face timed me on our phones so I did see Tasha open her presents which was very nice.

Later that night my sister Linda lost their electrical power and at this moment don't have it back yet. Don't quite understand that one, as they are in a suburb of Sacramento. Rural I understand better as to why it wouldn't be back on yet. Sure hope it comes on sooner them.  My sister Wendy heard they had to get rid of ALL their refrigerated/freezer food.

Bryan and Cheryl are out again since last night in Lincoln. At least they have a generator, as they were used to these outages when they lived in Georgetown.

Ken's been keeping busy outside in the cold and sometimes wet weather. We had a couple of vents from the stationary RVs blow off, so he was able to make something for them. I ordered what we need yesterday. Firewood is keeping him busy too, as the temps are in the high 30's and low 40's.

Yesterday he had his yearly Dr appointment with Danny in Wellington about 35 minutes away from here. All's good! On his way home about 1645 he's going through Wilson Canyon and a truck has his flashers on going the other way. Ken slowed down and encountered a huge boulder in his lane. Another one was in the centerline of the road. Hmm..with all the snow and rain it's not surprising. Some of those boulders always look like they could roll anytime!

Another couple of hours and the fire department posted this picture showing a rockslide right where Ken had come through. Hoping no one is in this mess.

Our beautiful Wilson Canyon looks like this now!

Our beautiful Wilson Canyon just last week

This morning a few daylight pictures were posted and then a drone video. OH no..so many cracks up high, I'm thinking this road is going to be closed for quite awhile in order for it to be safe to open up. This is the road we take to Gardnerville, about 50 miles away to visit Walmart. Looks like we'll be going to Carson City about 70 miles away. Haha.. The joys of living rural!

This morning's view from a droneπŸ˜”

Another drone view...A video that's way too long to post shows all the cracks ready to break and roll down the mountain.

WE were headed to Carson City and Reno this morning when Ken remembered he needed to call Carson Toyota for an appointment for the truck's servicing. We need that done before we head out anywhere. Well, they can get him in tomorrow, so we stayed home today. Sure is different from when they used to be weeks out. Walmart and Total Wine tomorrow. 😁🍷🍺🍸

I worked on making some low carb goodies, because it was that kind of day. Overcast and cold! Ken changed the oil in my car and other things outside! He's a trooper. 38 feels like 35.

Because we're a little crazy..we've enjoyed a fire or two
in the outdoor kitchen 🍷🍺 It does get toasty out there!

Got another card from my pen pal, Rylee Mae. Apparently she's taken upon herself to write me with no help from MOM. I love it! πŸ’—She addressed the envelope all by herself too.

She's just too sweet!

                                   A very independent little 7 year old!πŸ’—

I got a card out to her and to Austin and Jen who made the beautiful flag. Should be there soon.

Wanted to get this done before Happy Hour! Have a great evening!

  1. Thanks for the pictures of Wilson Canyon. I had trouble visualizing what was going on from your other post. I love that Rylee Mae is communicating the old school way. Good parenting!

    1. I so agree about Rylee. I also hand write to her, rather than computer and printing it out :) Yep the canyon is a mess!

  2. Oh my, that's some pretty dangerous slides happening there. Lucky Ken wasn't a little further down the roadway. Glad to hear the Dr's appointment went well. Hopefully power is fully restored to everyone soon. I would think the outdoor kitchen would be pretty cozy as long as the wind isn't blowing in the open side. Cute card!! Safe travels tomorrow.

    1. Yep we love the outdoor kitchen. We built it that way because 99% of the time it's wind free :) Love getting Rylee's cards!

    1. I would imagine that's what's going to be done once they figure how much of the mountain they'll have to bring down :( Thank you little Rylee is quite the girl. :)

  4. You do live out in the sticks. I was just complaining having to drive 30 miles to Indio to Walmart. Better keep quiet. That Wilson Pass looks very dangerous. Hope they can fix it before spring. Enjoy your cold wintry weather.

    1. Haha. We do have a Raley's in town, but it's too expensive to big shop! We really don't mind the wintry weather as long as there's firewood!

  5. That is quite the rock slide! Looks sketchy to even start clearing it as so much more will come down.
I am with Ken on working outside in the 30 degree weather, if there is no wind, it is quite comfortable.

  6. Yes it's unbelievable, but driving through in the best of weather we will comment that hope it doesn't fall! I'm not surprised Jim, that you would be out in the 30 degrees either!
