Adam and Erin, Thanks for spending New Years with us π |
Saturday, New Years Eve I was texting with grandson Adam asking what they had planned for the evening. Erin was working and he was hoping she'd get off early! He said he didn't know what was planned.
We had rain all night and in the morning. About 1100 it turned to snow, lots of it! Early afternoon I get a text and he's figuring the best way to come over. I did tell him the weather was bad and we were getting alot of snow so to watch the weather. He was, he said. I got a text about 1500 that they were on their way! He and Erin both kept in contact so we knew they were ok.
We headed next door around 1400 or so. Karen's family who live in town were supposed to come out, but with the weather they didn't want to drive. Can't say as I blame them. More food for us LOL.
We spent the afternoon on their back porch with their propane heaters running watching it snow and turn into a winter wonderland! ❄❅
Somewhere in the early evening we lost power, we heard a loud pop, and it lit up the backyard and then darkness. Luckily with Karen being a candle maker she knew right where to go. Candles lit up all over along with a few flashlights we were fine. Pretty much most of Yerington, Silver Springs and other areas lost power.
Adam and Erin arrived around 2100 safely. He said there was a few dicey spots but all in all a good drive. We all settled in nice and comfy.
Nearing midnight we broke out the bottle of prosecco that Erin had brought. Hugs all around and a toast with some very special people. A great way to ring in the new year π
We ended up going home nearing 0100. The kids went to bed, Ken and I headed there about 0130.
Sunday morning we didn't sleep in that late, but was amazed at the snow! More than we've ever had in the almost 10 years we've lived here. It's beautiful but oh so cold.
Made breakfast with bacon, eggs and waffles. The bacon was KC and Sierra's from the Conder Ranch! Adam and Erin both said it was the best they've ever had! He said that about my waffles too π Maybe he was just hungry LOL.
After breakfast they headed out to go snowshoeing up in the BLM. Pretty cool pictures, sure doesn't look like Nevada.
One they were back we pretty much stayed in and watched a couple of dvds (no internet for the television).
We had power back on yesterday morning. John and Karen along with most of neighbors still don't have power and probably won't until Tuesday evening. Ouch. They've brought in trucks from Vegas to help out. Not sure why we do, but we're grateful.
This morning we awoke to 13 degree temps and blue sky. Beautiful but with these temps the snow will be around much longer than normal and a possibility of more expected.
After a repeat breakfast the kids left around 1000. Ken had started a fire in the outdoor kitchen, so I went out there for a bit to enjoy the views and the warmth. We'll be back out there in a bit, before we head to John and Karen's for Happy Hour.
Brother in law Bobby retired today after 43 years and 7 months at Sutter Health Sacramento. He certainly looks happy! He's only 62 so he's got a lot of years to enjoy his retirement. Congratulations Bobby!
Wow, that's lots of snow. Yep, it's definitely cold if the snow stays around for a while. Nice of Adam and Erin to keep you informed, very thoughtful. Happy Hour at the neighbours sounds like fun!! Too bad about the power outage though.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Bobby. Let the good times start.
Deb
Yes and more coming. It is beautiful, but ohh so cold. The most snow and cold we've had in almost 10 years we've been here.
DeleteYou really got dumped on! Are you at the Ridge?? π π€£
ReplyDelete62 is a great retirement age, congratulations Bobby!
HAHA. Yep no point in working past that age or earlier in my opinion!
DeleteVery beautiful snowfall! I bet it does not last long. Love the fact that you went hiking in the snow.
ReplyDeleteWell, it wasn't us, it was the kids. I enjoy just looking at it. :) We've got a little more snow this am :)
DeleteYou definitely got snow all white and pretty, from a distance!...lol I always liked those kind of storms looking out watching it come down all sparkly in the street lights. What luck to have your power. Sounds like you are truly enjoying life...hugs
ReplyDeleteYes, I love just watching it snow. Sure miss power when you don't have it. We are enjoying for sure! :) Hugs to you!
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!! I just don't want to drive in it. Hang on tight, there is more coming!!
ReplyDeleteWe went to Gardnerville yesterday. No snow, just a lot of fog, glad Ken was driving! :)
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. Glad the kids had a fun and safe time. Congratulations Bobby!
ReplyDeleteYes it is! The kids enjoyed and we loved that they came over:)
DeleteHello, Saturday the 31st we got 2" of rain here in Fallon. Monday, January 31st, we got 8" of snow, and the power never went out. We got 50% of our total annual precipitation in three days!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your power outage, candles and wood stoves make it really nice though.
Oh, nice to meet a fellow Nevadan! :) I know it's amazing isn't it?! Small snowflakes this am :) Yes, we have to be prepared living here. We've been here almost 10 years and have never had this much snow and cold.
ReplyDeleteVery nice to talk with you! Funny, we were going to buy a house on Falcon Way in 2010. We could have been almost neighbors.
