Yerington's Small Town Christmas Parade! Rain and then snow overnight! The missing key! :(

Spent most of the week at home other than a day visiting Total Wine and Walmart.  Ken was taking me by Ross but it was getting late in the day so there's always next week!

Spent some time wrapping gifts as we'll be taking them over the hill on the 18th and 19th. Ken's mom turns 95 on the 18th so we can't miss that milestone 💖

Saturday morning I followed Ken on John's tractor pulling a trailer down 95A to town. It's only 7 miles but it took a good 45 minutes considering the tractor goes 10 miles an hour at its best speed.

John's flag flying in the wind!

Following Ken down our road

95A the highway..

It was really cold so I felt sorry for him. He was pretty frozen by the time we got there. We pulled up in front of Karen's store (Not Just Candles). We parked it and headed back home to come back at 1330 for decorating.

We did get to see an hour or so of the Army/Navy game. Sounds like quite the game too!

We got to the store around 1330 and Ken got started putting lights on the trailer and pulling a rope for hanging of decorations. I went out to get started and whenever Karen didn't have a customer she came out and helped too. For our first year of being in the parade, it turned out pretty nice. We had predictions of rain (we were hoping for snow).  So we worked with a few raindrops here and there.

Not Just Candles float

Our little parade had 53 floats, a few from as far as Reno!

Ken took the tractor and trailer over to the meet up spot about 1600 or so. Karen, her mom and I followed a few minutes later. We got situated along with others from Karen's family and a few young people. We're ready to go! Then the rain comes! In buckets! Nevada never gets this much rain, but on the night of the parade we do! Cold, rainy and dark, does it get any better?!! LOL!

Karen's mom, Izzie ready to go!

I enjoyed being in the parade, but really missed seeing all the different vehicles participating. Next year might have to get to the staging area earlier and walk around to see them. Pictures were difficult to get because of the rain and darkness.

Some were just amazing!

It was an awesome parade! We were all amazed at the people who turned out in the rain! Cars, trucks everywhere! Then there were people out in the rain everywhere, with fire pits and ez ups. Love our small town! The rain did not stop the crowd from turning out!

We got back and everyone was was wet and cold. We headed home and ended at Karen's for Happy Hour on the back porch with propane powered heaters.

Today we spent hours looking for John's Tractor key.  Hmmm...we still haven't found it this evening. This afternoon Ken and I went to where the tractor is parked and we were able to bring the trailer home. Wasn't easy but Ken was going to make it happen. Hopefully the key shows up soon!

About 1600 we headed to Karen's for Happy Hour and enjoyed the evening. John's sending a key home so Ken can get another key made and get the tractor home. Things happen, but Ken feels really bad. We know it was in his pocket when we left Karen's store Saturday night.

Sunday morning we woke up to this :)

Our front porch view 💙

Heading into town

Heading back home

Had a nice happy hour at Karen's and then came home and had a tasty dinner of spaghetti made with spaghetti squash noodles and lots of veggies. Perfect comfort food for a cold night and no guilt!

Woke up this Monday morning to blue skies and temps of 24 with a feels like 19 heading to a balmy 41.  Lots of very low temps this week! Time to get this day started, as they are all going way too quickly!

Have a great day!

Another catch up..Christmas lights, snow, Quick CA trip, Christmas Parade

Well, here we are again it's Sunday afternoon.  Spent the morning baking again some muffins for Ken as this week we'll be gone on a few day trips so this was the best day to do it!

The week flew by with a one day turnaround trip to CA for Ken to do a little project for Bryan and Cheryl.  Actually went quickly and after a few hours we were headed home again.  We took clothes to stay the night if needed but we didn't.

Got some wrapping done for Christmas and some more online shopping, but I'm getting there. I need one trip to Ross or TJ Maxx to finish up.

Ken got the outside lights up and I'm loving it!

I love this, we can see it from our couch and our bedroom! 😊

Bunkhouse and outhouse all lit up! 😍
The front of the house 💙

We did get a nice surprise earlier in the week

By late afternoon most of it was gone..still some on the hills though...

Cheryl gave this to me for my birthday when we were over there...LOVE IT!

Each little tiny bead is placed by her...LOTS more patience than I could ever have!
Ken got a really nice knife from them too.  Give Ken a new knife or flashlight he's a happy camper! 😀
I sent a few of our really old (vintage) ornaments to Seth and Holly with the story about each ornament. I also sent a tree skirt I made about 45 years ago.  We used to use it, but since my mom passed I used the one I made her the first year we were married. 50 Christmas's under its belt. I included some new ornaments too, just because.

Seth called to thank me so we had a nice conversation too. We'll see them at Christmas along with Jacob too.

These old buildings are located just a few miles from our house. Looks like a small Bodie..

Not this one LOL..

We were curious the story..too bad it's behind a fence with no trespassing signs

Not until I was posting pictures did I see this ...I would have taken a better picture
had I have seen this sign..LOL The town of Bezberg..is preserved in the state of arrested decay in honor of all the Nevada miners, past and present. I looked on the
internet but nothing about it...

At least hope some field trips are allowed there

Yesterday we watched the Navy/Army game and Navy won!! YAY! It was actually a pretty good game.

Then we headed for town about 1700 for the Festival of Lights Parade. It didn't disappoint, love how many come out for the parade both to watch and participate. The only disappointment was Santa was riding inside a truck at the end so it was hard to see him. Probably would have done better with my cell phone, but here's a few for an idea..just a little small town Christmas!

We've been home all day today.  Ken's working on firewood and I did some cleaning, baking and wrapping gifts listening to Christmas music all day long 😍

Tomorrow we plan on heading to Fallon, just a little over an hour away  to check out a vintage, antique, collectible store. Never know what I might find LOL.

Supposed to be a storm coming in so we'll see! I know my Canadian friends and others don't want to hear it, but I'm hoping for snow!!

Have a great evening!

Tonopah, NV a lot of partying in the street! Really nice parade! Home again and off to Reno tomorrow!

Friday morning we left home at about 1115 for our drive to Tonopah, NV.  It's only 150 miles from our house so not too far of a drive.  We stopped at the Rest Area in Luning, NV and pulled out our tuna sandwiches and baked bar b q chips. Nothing better!
Hawthorne, NV our beautiful flag :)

This little blip in the middle of nowhere has their flags flying :)

Saw this dust devil from the highway

The Clown Motel in Tonopah..supposed to be very
haunted!

The lobby is supposed to be full of clowns

We headed on down and pulled into the Jim Butler Inn where we had reservations for 2 nights.  Got our selves settled in and then took a little walk around town.  Eventually we went across the street to the Tonopah Liquor Company and had a couple of drinks just because we could.

Inside of the Tonopah Liquor Company

Time for some dancing in the street!

This is where we saw United Country
the band, last night..

This old building is being redone..
back to the Belvada, hotel..can't wait!
You know there's lots of ghosts in
this one!

At 1800 the bartender races began so got our spot outside to watch.  They're always fun. Didn't seem like there was near as many people as in the last couple of years though.  1900 the music started!  The band United Country is from San Diego and boy are they good!  Eventually we called it a night and came back to the room to get something to eat.  We hadn't eaten since lunch and it was time! We had some bar b q chicken and macaroni salad.  Bedtime!

This little sweetie was rocking out to the music

Yesterday morning we were up early visiting with our friends online. We had our coffee and then I ran down to the lobby to make some toast.  I brought hard  boiled eggs from home so with toast made a nice little breakfast. They have a continental breakfast here, but usual fare of sweets and cold cereal.

At a few minutes before 1000 we headed out to the front of the motel and the parade began.  Very patriotic town and the parade is the same.  I wish it would have been appropriate, but when the young lady sang the National Anthem I was watching all the kids and parents across from us.  Those kids are being raised right.  Hand over heart, no talking, no fidgeting. Very heartwarming! Would loved to have taken a picture, but not the right time. (Parade pics at the bottom of this post..)

Once the parade was over we went to the grocery to pick up some ice and then to the Mining Park to watch a bit of the competition.  We picked up a couple of t shirts and I even got a sweatshirt hoody!
1 guy has to fill the ore cart with dirt (about 2000 lbs)..
When we left time to beat was 3 min 28 seconds..wow..these
guys are something to watch!

A building in the park..they were offering gold panning for kids

At about 1300 we headed for the mexican restaurant here that we love and we weren't disappointed to say the least!

Chimichunga, Real (not canned) beans and rice..so yummy!
About 1/2 went back to the motel..

Chicken enchiladas, beans and rice..Ken ate it all :)

Took a little drive on a back road and then back to the room.  A little walk around town and then back to the room for a while. At about 1900 we headed back to Tonopah Liquor Company and then at 2000 over to the Mizpah Club. United Country was playing again so we wanted to watch for a bit.  All this fun is just too much for me and I was asleep (passed out)  as soon as we got to the room.  No dinner for me. Ken had some more of the chicken and macaroni salad.
Some homes on the back roads of Tonopah

Shame, a little love could do wonders

This poor house...once was a beauty I'm sure..

Looks like we found the old dump..

You can camp out there if you want it appears..

Slept in this morning (Sunday) till 0630! We're headed home, but there's no hurry.  We got home just about 1300 so we ran up to Dini's for lunch..ohh so good and I didn't have to make it up. Now we're home, took a short nap and we'll just enjoy the evening. We have to be in Reno about 0900 so we'll be leaving here early in the am.  Each of the grandsons have 1 game to play. One at 0920 and one at 1200. They've won every game they've played so far, so we'll hope that happens tomorrow! :))

Eric and son Mason were fishing..Mason caught this
beauty! Back in it went to grow some more!

Have a wonderful day.  I'll leave u with a picture overload of parade pics..LOL!

Marine Corps League..very elderly veterans walking the
parade..

Nevada NDF..

Fun vehicle for the Nye County Sheriff..

These guys were funny..had a shootout..

He was shot dead...

So was she..they were hilarious!

Very patriotic parade!

1978 Highway Patrol Car..

The fire department ended the parade...Basically, fire and
emergency med techs is all this little city has had for 1000
days! No hospital, no doctor..nearest would be over a
hundred miles..so sad!
