A great weekend! Outhouse Races, America like it used to be! Dayton brewpub, Fast Draw competition

The World's Largest Selfie! Outhouse Races, Virginia City Nevada!

I ended the last blog saying I'd tally up the costs of the 16 day trip.

Gas was $1353.00 for almost 3500 miles pulling the Mansion.

Cheapest gas was in Cody, Wyoming for $3.45 a gallon for 91 octane.

Most expensive was a tiny town of Scofield, UT $4.39 a gallon for 88 octane.

Camp fees were $210.00 so not bad at all. We were able to stay free at some places and NFS campgrounds, so that helped with the total.

I didn't tally souvenirs and food as that's something we'd do anyway.

Thursday we ran to Gardnerville for groceries at Walmart and a prescription from Raleys.

Friday was a cooking and baking day.  I made some low carb treats and then stuffed bell peppers for dinner. Ken's included rice, mine didn't but they were yummy!

Stuffed bell peppers were yummy!

Saturday morning we had a choice of a few things to do as there were a few events going on around us. Outhouse Races in Virginia City, Fast Draw competition in Fallon and Tractor Pulls in Smith Valley. Outhouse races won!

We got there around 1100 or so and just walked around town. Loaded with people, it was nice to see!  They didn't have the races last year because of covid.

After a little walking Ken convinced me we needed to get a drink in an old bar with a nice view. Oh heck, why not?! LOL.

Very spicy Bloody Mary for Ken and Screwdriver for me..at the
Bonanza Saloon...

The view from the deck of the Bonanza Saloon...

We walked up the hill to where the outhouses were in a parking lot.  There didn't seem to be as many as there were in a prior year, but still a nice turnout.

Captain America

The dependable fudger

The stores in Virginia City are fun..yesterday too crowded to go inside..

Love the old buildings!

I really liked this one ...Trailer Trash! LOL..

Took some pictures and then walked down the hill to where we could see the races. Started at 1200.

A woman got on the podium and started to sing the National Anthem. She had a lovely voice, but it sounded even better with a few thousand voices added to it! 💗💗 To see veterans saluting, people with hands over their hearts it was nothing short of AMAZING! This is the America we know and LOVE! Brought tears to my eyes!

Next year we plan to get a hotel room and spend the night..the races are both Sat
and Sunday.

In this pic you can see an outhouse coming in..was hard to get good pictures..maybe next year!
Ken convinced me it was time for another drink..LOL
The bad influence! 😉

We walked a little up a hill thinking we could see the races from there. We could see the end of them but with so many people in the street it was hard. Still fun!

After they were done we headed towards the car to see if we could find a place to eat. We found a cute little restaurant at the end of town. Since it was late there was hardly anyone in there.

They serve their wine in a coffee cup...oh well, still tasted good! Haha.

The food was really good.  Kind of weird fries (they weren't) I'm thinking they were potatoes left over from breakfast, but still tasty. I had made tuna sandwiches in the morning in case we couldn't find a place to eat but since this whole day was on John and Karen (our anniversary present from them) we thought why not eat out. 💙

After leaving Virginia City we headed towards Dayton, NV and Dayton Brewhouse. Ken had a beer and I had a glass of wine. Too pricy for our tastes so we stopped with one. I doubt that we'll go back there, but it was nice to see once.

Too yuppy for me..

Apparently Marilyn Monroe visited here back in the day and sat at
the bar where I was sitting.

After getting home we sat out back and then later had a nice fire in the fire pit. A great day and evening!

This morning (Sunday) we decided to head for Fallon, NV to check out the fast draw competition. We didn't stay long, it wasn't what either of us were expecting. Kinda cool to see the men and women dressed up in their western wear from days gone by. Like being in an old western movie.

Cute little food trailer

Glad to have gone once, don't need to go again LOL...

We left there and went by Big 5 to see if I could find some tennis shoes. Nope! I gave the guy whole range of shoes I'd take and he came back and said they had no size 5's in any (really)...so we left empty handed. They had 4 or 5 employees and we were the only ones in the store.

Headed for Stockman's Casino to get some late lunch.  It was slowwwww service. Seems everyone is having problems finding people to work. Hiring signs all over the place.  I thought the extra federal money has stopped, if that's the case then why aren't more people working?

The food was good for sure, but I'd hate to see them on a busy afternoon!

We came home after that and I'm doing the blog. Ken moved the Mansion to the back to dump.

It was a fun weekend playing hooky from work that needs to be done.  You only live once right?!

My sister Linda and hubby attended his uncle's service on Friday.  On the memorial card was this quote by Abraham Lincoln:

"In the end it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years."

So very true! 💖

Mason and his dad lowered his truck this weekend. Here he is with new wheels and tires and lowered truck..💙

Nephew Dusty did the Urban Cow 1/2 marathon this morning in Sacramento.

Friends of ours bought some property near us so we had to check it out on the way home! Congratulations!!

  2. The outhouse race was one of my all time favorite events. Love that little town!!! I'm glad they are getting back to normal. As to the fast draw ... it's pretty much the same old guys. I have to admit, they are fast!! Fuel here runs $4.50 so you did good!! My friend Patty has the same shoe problem. We hit all the kids stores to find ones for her!!
