Hickison Petroglyphs

Had a beautiful trip from Yerington to Austin, NV. Stopped outside Austin to have lunch in the trailer.  Visited Bob Scott Campground just to get an idea if it's somewhere we would stop with the grandkids so it wouldn't be such a long drive if we were taking them to Great Basin.  Nice campground with fire rings, picnic tables and flush toilets.  Would only cost $5.00 for the night so you can't beat that!  Or can you?

Sand Mountain NV..had a lot of good times there

Highway 50..love it!

Austin, NV

Lunch

We drove another 20 miles or so and got a nice campsite at Hickison Petroglyphs..a BLM campground for FREE...it only has pit toilets and you have to bring your own water..no problem for us.  Nice fire rings and picnic tables.

So we set up and then decided to take the .6 mile trail to see the Petroglyphs..gotta admit we've seen better in our travels..but Nevada did a really nice job with the trail so it was a nice walk.

See the little stick figure looks like he's on a horse

Came back to camp and just enjoyed being outside..really windy..hoped it would die down but never did.  We watched the ever changing skies and some lightning and thunder..a little rain..Ken was able to bar b q dinner and then the skies let loose!  It poured rain and thundered!  So no more outside!  Heard some motorcyclists come in to camp just before the rain..so I am sure they got drenched setting up camp.

Ken got this pic of me...cold
Shocked to see we have service, so figured I'd post a bit as I know for the next two days there won't be any.

This morning is our 43rd wedding anniversary.  Hard to believe it's been so many years!  We are headed to Great Basin NP, one of our favorite places! Today we are both looking forward to our special once a year bologna sandwich
lunch.  The night we got married we got bologna and white bread for our dinner..the next morning Ken made scrambled eggs with chopped up bologna. So this is why lunch is special!  Takes us back to our humble beginnings..hahah
Actually we love bologna..but not supposed to have it...
Waking up to partly cloudy, more cloudy than not skies..smells so good outside!
