Royal Gorge to Grand Junction Colorado...

Yesterday was 148 miles traveled...today was about 250 miles...We woke up early (thought it was 0600..but really 0500 as my kindle hadn't changed times)...we had no phone service at the KOA in Canon City..but really didn't care..had a nice evening last night and this morning took our time getting out of there...

We headed up the road to where the Royal Gorge was..we had been there about 15 or 16 years ago and we had Eric with us on that vacation.  Well, there was a major fire just a little over a year ago and now the gates are closed and there is a little loop road u can follow and take pictures of the bridge.  Pretty much that's all that's left after the fire..A fellow last night told us they think it may have been an inside job...as there are lots of politics involved in the whole Royal Gorge thing...$$$ are involved and growth..so we'll see what happens down the road..years ago it was on my bucket list...got to do it..so I am good!

Here's looking at the bridge...about 1000 foot up from the river

Another look..they even had a bungie jump across the river
for the brave at heart...gone now..

A view looking at the river and valley beyond.

After a few pics we left and headed down highway 50 with the destination of Grand Junction, Co in mind.

Highway 50 is an incredibly beautiful highway!  Leaving Canon City it ran along the river for a long time!   sooooo....beautiful!!!

Just loved the ever changing scenery

The beautiful mountains ahead..

We went over Monarch Pass and Crest where we went several years ago..we rode the gondola to the top of the mountain many years ago..but today it was closed..i'm thinking it's a summer time thing!...

At the top of Monarch Crest the little building is where the gondala
would let u off years ago...

Over 11000 feet...!

Drove on and just enjoyed the beauty that Colorado has to offer...I told Ken that I would love to come back camping along the river..it was so awesome!

The clouds got darker, and the wind blew harder..it was beautiful..coming into Grand Junction, the clouds and storm was incredibly something to see..luckily it didn't start raining until we got to the campground.  Nice place, passport america..so it cost us under $20.00 for full hookups...luckily we're here before the end of the month because they don't take our passport america until the fall again...it would have been $36.00 + tax without the discount.

The storm we were able to avoid...love the way it looks!

Coming into Grand Junction, Colorado

It's still raining as I write this..but love hearing it on the camper.  Tomorrow we head for Arches National Park..about 100 miles from here..so we'll see..

Today is our oldest son's Bryan's 41st birthday...can't believe he's hit that age..Love u Bryan!!

Russell, our youngest son, and a group of his friends went skydiving in Davis, CA today.  They did it as a memorial to a friend that passed away earlier this year.  They had planned to jump with him and so they went ahead and did it....Russell said it was "awesome"  I think he's crazy but now that's two out of three sons that have done it!...

You have to be there..these are pinnacles much like
Devil's postpile in CA..hard to tell in the picture..
